  • Description

We both wrote a little bit about ourselves so you can get to know both of us as a person.
    JOSHUA:
My name is Joshua and I‘m from Germany.
I‘m 24 years old and I have 2 silblings, so I like family and also harmony a lot.
I want to discover Canada by Work&Travel with my girlfriend Lilly and to experience some adventures along our journey. So I like to learn and do new things! On the other hand, I would describe me as a rather rational human with a great enthusiasm towards science-related stuff. I enjoy working in a team and I‘m always eager to get things done properly. In my free time I like to cook and bake, play the piano, garden, hike and meet up with friends.

Through our short vacation in Yukon Territories and Alaska in 2023 our excitement towards Canada, its welcoming inhabitants and its absolutely gorgeous nature has grown so much, that we want to see and learn more about this country. As we both had a focus on natural sciences at university we love being in nature and learning about ecosystems. I personally like also repairing things and to do DIY-projects, such as helping renovate a house, building a roof for a garden shed and much more.

For the past year and a half I worked as a project manager in a waste company. In this job, my task was to ensure the disposal and recycling of mineral waste, such as used plasterboard, in various projects in accordance with the law. I gained experience in customer care, and also had to plan the projects, calculate and submit offers, prepare contracts and plan transportation and disposal routes.

I have a bachelor‘s degree in Environmental Protection and am regarding this topic always interested in climate change and its impact on the environment. It is important to me to contribute in this matter to our society. Prior to the Bachelor I also did some voluntary work - as a rescue worker (we always worked as a team: the rescue worker drives, the paramedic stays with the patient) I drove patients in ambulances for half a year. In this time I learned so much about communicating with people in pain or carrying heavy burdens.

In 2018 to 2019 I was able to visit Australia with a friend for almost half a year and had the chance to see and learn about the people and nature especially on the East coast. I absolutely enjoyed the stay there and I am very grateful that I‘ve been able to explore this (for me) new continent.

I‘m looking forward to explore Canada and all its facets with my girlfriend and hope that workaway gives us a chance to get to know you!

    LILLY:
    Hello everyone,
happy to see you here. My name is Lilly and fort the next year I am working and travelling with my boyfriend Joshua through Canada.
I’ve been exploring the world since i was 18, where my first big trip was to Mongolia with my two older siblings. Since then i try to use every chance to see new places and cultures around the world. Some big factors when choosing my destinations is the nature and people. I love hiking and exploring my surroundings. While studying primary education at the university my major subject was Biology, which gives me some knowledge to unterstand the flora and fauna a little bit better, but there’s so much more to learn. I also love to see how people around the world live and how different there approach to our enviroment is.
I grew up in a big family with four kids, so our home was always full of life (and people). Because of that, we all developed a pretty strong sense for community and helping each other out. While I am still pretty close to my family, I love to meet new people around the world and listen to their experiences and stories. It helps to keep an open mind and change perspective once in a while to see that there is many ways to being happy.
Aside from that I love working with children and already gained some experience while volunteering at the reading club of our local elementary school. The goal is to spark excitement for reading in general and give kids who don’t have access to books the opportunity and time to read.
In my free time I love getting creative with painting, crocheting, cooking, baking and DIY-projects. Because I live in a house where we do a lot ourselves, i have some experience in fixing problmes that come up, such as fixing the toilets, building a new roof for our garden shed or renovating an guest room. While studying i always worked in the hospitality industry as a server and barkeeper and also in retail, where i gained experience in customer service.

We're looking forward to explore Canada and all its facets and hope that workaway gives us a chance to get to know you!
