Hello! My name is Jo and I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota in the United States. I graduated university in August 2023 with a Bachelor's degree in Community Advocacy and Social Policy and am spending the following year (or longer!) traveling. I am passionate about social justice, sustainability, community, and genuine connections with people, and love to travel and learn more about other cultures and languages. So far I have been to sixteen countries and volunteered in four - I have had incredibble experiences and look forward to seeing what else is out there!

I am a hard worker and a fast learner and am open to learning nearly any new skill! My most recent job was in administration at a physical therapy and rehabilitation clinic and I have done a variety of jobs and volunteer experiences over my life, such as tutoring, working as a teaching assistant in the Reconciliation Studies department at my university, and working as an academic mentor for university students with intellectual disabilities. I am currenlty volunteering at a hostel in Bulgaria and am interested in finding opportunities to work at hostels around the world.

I also have lots of experience cooking and baking, working in food service and customer service, working with children and animals, and some experience with construction, gardening, and DIY projects.

I had an amazing time staying at the guesthouse and met so many lovely people! There is a lot of freedom to choose what tasks you do and when, and the communal nature of the house and residents is very welcoming.

I had such an amazing time staying with Refke and am so glad our paths crossed. Refke is so genuine and funny, a kind and flexible host, and really made me feel at home in Amsterdam. The work is as described in the profile, and I enjoyed getting to know Refke while helping around the house. Best wishes and I hope to see you again someday :)

Jo has a sense of humor that always caught me by surprise, I love that! We could talk about anything and everything. Jo left so many areas in the house clean and shiny. Just like I needed. All in all a good experience. Host Jo and I bet you will be happy that you did.
