  • Description

I was born in the Black Mountains in Wales, UK, so I am a country girl at heart. Animals...especially horses, have always been part of my life.
As the eldest girl in a family of five children, I learned to develop my maternal skills and responsible attitude at an early age. This was difficult as I saw myself as an adventurous tom-boy, climbing trees and disappearing on dangerous adventures! My interests have been sailing, riding, tennis and hiking.
I have loved travelling all my life, seeing how others live and cope, in their diverse environments. I am particularly interested in the comparative lives of women in different cultures, their unique differences, but also the underlying sameness.
I am now a grandma with a very lively 6 year old grandson, who has just been to stay with me for a month. I am still fit, well and energetic enough to cope with that, so a day of digging in the garden or decorating a room is a very easy task for me.
I am creative and not afraid to use my initiative when necessary. I like to be active and find it difficult to sit still for long. If I see something needs doing - then I have to do it!
As I am not very good at being a 'Tourist', I was excited when I heard of the 'Workaway' scheme. What a perfect way to meet real 'locals' and experience a different culture and ways of living.

  • More details about your skills

I trained as a teacher and went out to Singapore as an English Language Instructor/Teacher Trainer. I then opened and ran my own restaurant in Singapore (16 staff) - I am considered a good cook by all my favourite friends! I ran a B&B in France, as well as restoring old stone houses ( in France and Spain - tiling, stonework and decorating /painting - my most skilled accomplishments ).
I worked in childcare and as a private tutor in Idaho, and as a PA. to a Co. Director in California, USA. I am also a keen gardener, creating a large vegetable garden and flower filled courtyard these last 2 years.
In the past few years I have trained and worked in specialist respite/palliative care of the infirm and elderly.
I love to work as part of a team, but I am able to work responsibly on my own, always keen to enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done - a bit of a perfectionist really!
