  • Description

Since my first solo travel trip to Italy for 5 weeks in 2020, I fell in love not only with Italy and its gorgeous language and culture, but also with solo travel. Staying in hostels, I was able to meet such a variety of cool and interesting people from all over the world, often staying in touch through social media after we had parted ways for our next destinations. As much as I enjoy travelling with friends too and think this is an important aspect of travel, travelling alone really allows you to grow as an individual, learn things about yourself and also about others. I met some Workawayers during my time between hostels and loved the idea of it, and am so incredibly excited to take part in Workaway! I'm sure it will allow me to experience a new range of countries, cultures and peoples :))

More details about my language interests
With English being my native language this allows me to communicate already with a wide group of people. While at school, I studied French to a high level, able to read, write and speak with some confidence, as well as learning about French culture and customs. I try to maintain my level here. Since going to Italy, I fell in love with the beautiful, melodic language and started to teach myself during the lockdowns through Babbel, online. I continue to use Babbel and have had some lessons with a teacher as well to try and improve my level, as I am very passionate about the language. I am therefore always excited and interested in learning a new language, and will always make the effort to know and understand the basics of the native language spoken, as I think this is respectful when you are visiting a place, even if I lack fluency. I think I could also teach English in an appropriate way if that was needed, or can give help on this.

  • More details about your skills

Despite being new to the Workaway experience, I have travelled quite a lot so far and think I would thrive in this opportunity - this is because I love meeting new people and socialising, as I did when I completed my first solo trip for five weeks to Italy in 2020, where I made lots of new friends. Working a practical job alongside studying means I can help with manual tasks and jobs around the house - I'm not work-shy, and have worked hard to save money over the past months to fund travel, as I would rather do this to invest in new experiences! Studying allows me to organise my time well and complete a lot of reading, so I think I could also complete any administrative tasks to a high standard that might be needed. By learning other languages too this will allow me to communicate with more people. I have a younger brother and I have lots of experience looking after him and babysitting, preparing meals for him and, during lockdown, I home-schooled him so he wouldn't fall behind. I feel I'm an outgoing, sociable person who loves to get involved in the local culture and feel I could get on with anybody. It's important to keep an open mind so that I can attempt a new challenge or enter a new opportunity!

  • What else ...

I am very interested in the world around us, and want to do everything I can to have as many experiences featuring different countries, cultures, and people, as I believe experiences are one of the most important things in life. As I grow more mature and older, I'm ready to expand my horizons now beyond Europe, which is where much of my travel has been so far. This means I can keep following my dream of travel! I enjoy nature and exercise, creative writing and I have won competitions for this, learning languages, visiting museums and galleries (I study History so anything that is old I'm immediately interested in!), and of course, partying!
