Description
Hello! My name is Gemma, I am 27 on a working holiday in Australia for a year, taking a break from my career in psychology at home in the UK. I love being outdoors - hiking, wild swimming and gardening. I would therefore love an opportunity in the outback or rural Australia to be firmly in the midst of nature and experience the way of life unique to this beautiful side of the world. At home, I have grown up around animals and helping my Dad garden on his allotment and would really love an experience looking after farm animals, gardening and projects involving managing the environment, land or sustainability. I also have lots of experience in hospitality including cleaning, organising and house management so happy to also get involved in these tasks. I'm happy to get my hands dirty, work independently or in a team and would love to learn some new skills! If I sound like a good fit, feel free to reach out :)

More details about your skills
My background is in Art and Psychology - I hold a Fine Art Foundation Course Diploma (UAL) and a BS(c) Degree in Psychology (University of Liverpool) and share an equal passion for both creativity and psychological thinking. I enjoy challenging work, have excellent interpersonal skills and I'm very keen to learn new things!
I have worked people in fast-paced and often emotionally charged environments within healthcare and social care. These jobs have included working with individuals on probation helping them to transition into the community after prison; families in social care with a mental health charity; testing vulnerable patients with COVID; supporting Venezuelan refugees and peer mentorship with young people with mental health difficulties. These jobs have greatly improved my resilience, adaptability and dealing with the unknown.
I also have lots of experience in hospitality (including working in a tourist centre, holiday park, restaurants and retail work) which has given me practical skills including:
- Housekeeping supervision
- Reception
- Ticket selling
- Bookselling
- Money handling
- Stock rotation and stock counting
- Administrative skills
- Dealing with customers by phone, email and in person effectively
- Making individual and group reservations
- Waitressing
-Cleaning
Outside of work, I have developed skills in gardening through helping my Dad on his allotment and have been lucky enough to grow up with animals, which has fostered a deep compassion for all living things.
