  • Description

My name is Gabriel Thompson, 24y/o and I grew up in the San Juan Islands located in the PNW of Washington State. I've been doing volunteer worktrades for the past 1 and a half years which has been life-changing. I love to try new things and meet new people. some of my favorite activities are prep cooking, playing music, exercising, and videography (no pro but enjoy it a lot.) I'm a great follower and listener and I use that to work hard to better myself and those around me.
I love traveling and exploring in deep lush bush but also can vibe with my journal/book w/ a cup of tea indoors.

My journey started in Arizona helping a gentleman work on his tiny off-grid home. That lit a spark in me and now I want to continue that work. I've been using Workaway to travel from place to place. I spent 3 months in Arizona doing construction for 2 off-grid living communities and renovation for a cafe at a Buddhist temple retreat in Flagstaff AZ. I then flew to Hawaii on the east side of the big island to help at an animal sanctuary to take care of the animals and be one of the maintenance guys. there I would work on a tiny home they had going on made out of steel insulated pannels and did a lot of lawn and fence maintenance. after that, I spent 1 month in San Diego helping on someone's permaculture property. I spent 10 months in the Americorps program doing 5 different projects. The first project was in Columbia Missouri helping at a food bank who was just recently relocated to a bigger facility. My team also helped finish 4 homes for a blitz build with Habitat For Humanity. Our 3rd project was helping low-income, unprivileged folks in Denver Colorado file their 2023 return taxes. For our last round project, we were located in Fort Smith Arkansas helping at 2 state parks get ready for the summer by doing trail maintenance and other park maintenance work. There was a devastating tornado that hit east of Fayetteville so my team was put on disaster relief and helped out with fixing and cleaning up the trails that were affected by it. During my travels, I tend to gravitate toward helping people on the side with little side gigs for money by doing a lot of gardening and landscaping. I'm great with animals and kids. I grew up with animals myself and helped with a lot of youth programs in during my studies.
