I love to be creative in many sorts of ways like painting, sculpting, making music or crafting and I am open to get to know more sides of creativity. I have wanted to learn Italian for some years now, so I would be more than happy to get to know the Italian language. I have learned English and French in school and I could teach both languages, but I am way better in English than in French. I am a native German speaker so I could also teach German.

My skills lay mainly in the creative field, for example in painting, crafting and sculpting. I learned a lot about art in the advanced art class at my school. I am also very musical and learned to play the clarinet and the piano as well as singing. I have band, choir and orchestra experiences. When it comes to agriculture I have from early on often helped on my aunts farm with sowing and harvesting plans or other farm work. On my aunts farm I have also gained experience with the upbringing and caretaking of animals like chicken, cats, sheep, ducks, goats, horses and dogs. I took riding lessons for 4 years and I am still happy every time I get the chance to sit on a horseback. My father and grandfather taught me the handling and processing of wood and I enjoy helping in the garden (preferably if the weather is nice). I really like working on different types of projects and I have already gained multiple experiences with that. For more than a year now I am in possession of my car driver's license. At home I often help with housekeeping. I have 3 siblings, 2 of them younger than me, so I am also experienced with kids.

I’ve spent about 4 incredible weeks at the farm and I wish I could‘ve stayed longer. The accommodation and the food were luxurious (we literally had a two beds room with a stunning view plus private bathroom and for dinner we sometimes had truffle dishes). But even without the truffles, Sam cooked fresh, restaurant-worthily delicious meals… read more everyday (often not only one dish but more options so that there was something for everyone) I rarely had the same dish twice which shows how creative Sam’s cooking was.

The work was never too much or too hard but varied and actually really fun. I especially loved the artistic tasks like the mosaicking and the photography tasks - Trina always came up with more interesting and fun ideas and gave us time and artistic freedom for these tasks. The gardening was nice too although weeding in the hot sun was a bit tough, but even that was fine in the prospect of cooling off (in the pool) afterwards. Working alongside the farm managerin Catia and the farmworker Francesco we got to pick up some Italian vocabulary which I liked as well.

On our days off we had the opportunity to drive to the nearby town Umbertide and stroll through the food and clothes market, have a coffee and a croissant at a local café or browse in the secondhand or vintage store. On Sundays we often went on hikes to restaurants in the area, some were shorter and easygoing and some were longer and more exhausting but they were all manageable and it was great to get to see the landscapes of the beautiful regions Umbria and Tuscany.

I loved the karaoke nights (Alix‘ performances were the best) and the evenings spent watching movies or playing games in great company, I couldn’t get enough of listening to the stories Trina and Sam had to tell about their lives, I had great fun learning some dance steps and I enjoyed a fine wine-tasting instructed by Sam - the list could go on…

My whole stay was so beneficial for me in different ways - I got inspiration from the picturesque landscapes and Trina‘s art as well as her mosaic expertise for my own artistic work and studies, I’ve had time for relaxing and enjoying Italian summer, I was spoiled with healthy and delicious food, learned a bit Italian and on top of all it just made me really happy to be able to help out Trina and Sam with whatever had to be done.
Trina, Sam and Alix were such a welcoming host family and always thankful for the work we did. I couldn’t have imagined a better first workaway experience and I definitely want to return soon:)
