Description
Hello! Or as we say in Finland – Moikka!
We are Erja, a mother (60), and Fanny, daughter (26) travelling together from Southern Finland.
In spring 2026, we did our first Workaway trip to Europe (nearly 3 months) and it was so amazing! We learned a lot and met wonderful hosts, other workawayers and local people. Thanks to all of you!
We’ve travelled around Europe quite a bit during the years and can’t seem to get enough. We are each other’s best travel buddies. We’ll be traveling again with our other travel friend, orange car called Pluto, which gives us flexibility.
Now we are planning our second trip from around September/October to next spring. So, we would like to stay away from cold, snowy (and dark) Finland entire winter! (we do not enjoy skiing or slipping on the ice)
We want to continue to step out of familiar routines and the rat race to be more connected with nature and escape the hustle and bustle of city life, travel around Europe to see different cultures and meet people.
Next trip we would like to go back to France, and maybe Southern France in the winter time, perhaps Italy (Liguria or other northern parts) and in spring time Ireland, Southern UK, (Cornwall etc.), Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark (Bornholm!) and Sweden (Skåne?).
We’re comfortable with a hammer and a paintbrush in our hands, but beyond that we promise curiosity, enthusiasm, and a strong willingness to learn. We enjoy hands-on work and consider ourselves fairly creative people.
Erja has worked as a city guide in our hometown for 15 years, and has years of experience in training customer service, communication, sales etc., she also has written three books.
Fanny is a baker-pastry chef, designer as well as a part-time ceramicist, so getting her hands dirty is not a problem at all. Erja shares the passion for pottery too.
We love spending time outdoors and in nature; long walks in forests, picking berries (now it´s time of bilberries, European blueberry, in Finnish forest, about 15 litres picked already), bird watching, ‘bug watching’, listening wind whispering in trees etc. But are happy to jump in with indoor projects as well.
What really motivates us is helping, learning new skills, seeing different cultures, and tasting new foods. We’re easy eaters, no food allergies and happy to try most things - we only skip live oysters (has been tasted). We also enjoy cooking, helping in the kitchen and possibly sharing a few Finnish recipes.
We get along well in English, but are excited to learn more of different languages even if it just a one word here and there, a phrase, or a joke, and IF you happen to be interested in learning Finnish - don't worry, we'll do our best teaching you!
We’d love to help you and learn more about gardening, olive and fruit harvesting, preserving vegetables, animal care (all kinds), beekeeping or assisting with running a B&B or similar accommodation. And just so you know — one of us secretly dreams of mowing lawns (again) and one of us would like to meet a dachshund .
