  • Description

I go by M.E., short for my given name, Emily. I grew up on the Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains as well as in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. In January 2025, I relocated to New York City after an extensive period of travel, to pursue my calling as a musician and artist in a high-pressure environment. My musical and artistic works speak to larger issues related to late-stage capitalism and anthropogenic climate change. To make ends meet in NYC, I work in landscaping, gardening and rock climbing with genuine passion. All in all, my guiding mission throughout my life is to play a small part in healing humanity’s relationship to Earth’s ecosystems.

When it comes to your household management and improvement projects, I am eager to lend my insight and energy anywhere from pouring concrete to petsitting. My specialization is in landscaping and gardening, and I would be happy to help with your land anywhere from design to implementation.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2023. In 2023, I obtained a Permaculture Design Consultant's Certificate (PDC) from the Regenerative Education Collective of Denver (CO). In 2022, I completed a study of climate-resilient design principles and building techniques at Earthship Biotecture Academy in Taos, NM.

Throughout my travels, I gather precious moments with kindred spirits, jamming with fellow musicians, and sharing in the timeless craft of storytelling. By channeling my imagination into work, I strive to lead a creative life - weaving music, poetry, art, and land together as I live, breathe, and dream. I strive to communicate thoroughly, promptly, and accept feedback with grace.

  • More details about your skills

My skills range from outdoor woodcraft (rough carpentry), natural building, and construction/restoration to permaculture landscape design, biodynamic gardening, and small-scale ecological agriculture. I am experienced in utilizing power tools and small-gas equipment. I work with the mindset that "safety is no accident" (get it?) and strive to work smarter, not harder. I can work independently or in a team setting. I thrive in work environments driven by permaculture ethics and mindfulness around environmental and social justice concerns.

I've contributed to multiple home builds, working with natural materials (e.g., stone, adobe, earth), up-cycled building materials (e.g., tires, aluminum cans, glass bottles), and conventional materials such as concrete and lumber. My work in landscaping has trained me in installing and maintaining irrigation systems as well as developing, reading, and following project designs. I can drive stick shift and have experience operating heavy machinery such as a skid-steer, tractor, and truck/trailer.

Finally, I have a background in animal husbandry, petsitting and child- and elder-care.

  • What else ...

Does what I've shared so far speak to you? How might our goals align? Please feel free to reach out!

Through work exchanges, I seek to develop myself as a handyperson, land steward, global citizen, musician, and artist. How might my interests, talents, and experiences contribute to your household, community, and projects?

When in a new place, I aim to embrace cultural practices different to my own. Thus, I am a flexitarian – and I try to follow Michael Pollan's advice to "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with others as well as alone.

I am an avid outdoors-person. Spending the majority of my life in Boulder, Colorado granted me the opportunity to develop skills in rock climbing, camping, backpacking, and rafting.
