Description
Hello!
My name is Emma, I’m 25 years old and from London. I’m passionate about travel, animals, and learning about different ways of life. I have graduated from Cambridge University with a master’s in English Literature, and I’m now planning to travel and volunteer during the summer of 2026.
I am a big animal lover and believe in treating all people and animals with great respect. I have been horse-riding since I was young and am now an intermediate rider, confident at walk, trot, and canter. In 2024 I spent two weeks on a Workaway placement in Brittany, helping with horses, dogs, chickens, and general house and garden work. At university I played polo (2021–22) and took part in inter-university competitions, which gave me valuable experience handling different horses and working as part of a team. Earlier, in 2018, I completed my BHS Stage 1 Care award, where I gained stable experience and learned about mucking out, feeding, grooming, and other horse care tasks. I really enjoy spending time around horses, being outdoors, and am not afraid of hard work or getting muddy.
I’m adaptable and have experience living abroad. In 2023 I spent seven months near Paris as an English teaching assistant in a secondary school, and before that I taught English in Thailand to pupils aged 5 to 18. I’m very comfortable around children and young people and enjoy helping them learn. Through school exchange programmes, I have also lived with host families in France and Australia, which taught me how to quickly fit in to different lifestyles and feel at ease in new environments. I am happy to work flexibly and do different tasks to help out.
I am a reliable, calm, and caring person who is happy to be sociable or keep myself occupied with reading or sketching. I also love cooking, having taken a 24-week online cooking course during the pandemic (LEITHS culinary certificate), and I enjoy trying new food.
I would love to see new places, meet new people, and make the most of a Workaway experience! -

More details about your skills
I am physically fit and not afraid of doing work. I am adaptable and prepared to help out and take on new challenges.
I have taught English to students in schools in Thailand and France from ages 4 to 18 and so I am very comfortable around children and young people.
I have done some short-term hospitality work and volunteered at a music venue, in both instances I learnt to work quickly and efficiently alongside others as required.
I have French language skills (passed DELF B2 exam) and I am eager for language exchange opportunities. I also have strong sewing and cooking skills – during lockdown in 2020 I completed LEITHS 24-week cookery course and I am keen to do more cooking and practice what I have learnt!
I have grown up riding horses and to take my Stage 1 Care exam I spent two weeks of daily preparation and I learnt much about horse care and stable work while also improving my riding. -
