Description

Hello, our names are Emily and Jay and we are couple from Canada! We currently live in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador where we both recently graduated from the Environmental Sustainability bachelors program at our local university. We both love to travel and spend time in nature, hiking, snowshoeing, swimming, etc., and we are looking to fill our summer with experiences working outdoors and exchanging culture in a variety of European countries. We hope to gain experience and form connections with hosts and are excited to start our workaway journey!

We are both native English speakers with experience working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students, so teaching English would be something we can do! Jay being Dutch-Canadian, and both of us having travelled to the Netherlands together, we have attempted to learn some Dutch and would call ourselves beginners with a desire to learn more. We are both open to learning any new languages!

Emily: For many years I have worked in plant nurseries and at my local university's botanical gardens. I also have experience in nature education through my work with summer camps, teaching young children (ages 5-12) the value of nature! I also have experience teaching english to university students through my institution's English as a Second Language programme. I have spent most of my professional and personal time outdoors as an environmental conservationist following my schooling, and therefore I am no stranger to strenuous work in the sun, rain, or snow! My personal life is very creative, exploring watercoloring, crocheting, and embroidery.

Jay: I have much experience in various fields, such as commercial painting, home repairs, and environmental research. I am handy with home projects including repairing and painting, but also enjoy spending time working with plants. I also have experience working in agro-sciences, collecting soil samples from local farmer's fields. Additionally, I have education experience with young children through nature education, teaching english through my institution's English as a Second Language programme, and teaching French at a university level as a language lab assistant. My personal life includes spending much time outdoors, but also learning about new cultures, and reading.
