  • Description

Hey! We’re Ellie and Robert from the UK and the Netherlands ✨
A creative couple and longtime Workawayers, currently searching for our next nourishing community in Catalonia, Spain. We’re passionate about immersing ourselves in new experiences and connecting collectively with diverse people. We thrive on learning and sharing skills, and we believe that building meaningful relationships and embracing different cultures is the essence of life.

Since June, we’ve had the privilege of volunteering together at three eco-villages across Portugal, the UK, and Spain. We’ve cherished every aspect of community living and now hope to continue our off-grid journey by settling in one place until mid-April. Ultimately, our dream is to create a home of our own one day, on land either within a community or beyond it.

Our journey began at an eco-village near Satão, Portugal, where Robert had spent nine months over the course of three years. From there, we travelled together to an organic farm in the UK before road-tripping south to Tarragona, Spain. We are currently staying at a beautiful finca with an incredible community near Tortosa, though we plan to explore more of northern Spain before deciding where to settle long-term.

I began my volunteering journey in November 2024, traveling throughout Portugal for six months before continuing on to Morocco, where I gained valuable skills, knowledge, and a deeper understanding of community living.
Art has always been my main passion, so nearly eight years ago I founded Pet Pawtraits, creating bespoke, realistic pet portraits. I’m now exploring a new venture focused on nature-inspired art, enjoying how different environments continue to shape and inspire my creative direction.
Even more things I like doing (!); practising yoga, dancing (ecstatic/5 Rhythms), swimming (any body of water - not fussy just get me in!), gardening, vegan cooking, music (beginner on the uke), surfing and going on a nice big hike.

Robert won’t like me writing this but he’s an absolute wizard with wood. With a background in carpentry, he can transform even the humblest scrap materials into something both beautiful and practical. From barns to bars, floors to ceilings, he has the remarkable ability to build just about anything.
He’s the kind of versatile handyman everyone dreams of having ! With skills in construction, roofing, bricklaying, and even basic plumbing and electrical installation - what more could you want!
He loves; playing guitar, chess, vegan cooking (!!) and now a recent discovery of becoming a bread baker too!

In addition to our different interests, we’re deeply committed to caring for Mother Earth and fostering a sustainable environment. This passion drives our daily choices, as we strive to live as consciously and mindfully as possible.
We’re both happiest in nature, surrounded by animals. We share a deep affinity with them and care for every animal as if it were our own. Having been vegan for over seven years, we hold a strong respect for the world and for all beings within it.

We’d love to get the chance to help a community grow and develop, whilst also learning throughout the process.
We’re looking forward to the next adventure to live harmoniously with those around us ✨

  • More details about your skills

    - I have a great love for all animals and can easily take care of horses, chickens, cats and dogs. My childhood consisted of helping at a rural horse stables where I would tend to the needs of the ponies and horses. Spending 7 years here allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge and understanding for both the horses and the community the stables attracted.
    - I have a range of knowledge of natural ways of living, homeopathic remedies and bio cosmetics to simultaneously help the planet and your body.
    - I would love to have the opportunity to share my creativity and painting skills with others.
    - I have a keen interest in gardening, plant care, organic farming and permaculture, and I’m very ready to learn more! I’d love to put sustainable farming into practise.
    - I worked for a charity in Bristol called Walkers and Talkers, which has the aim of increasing connection within local communities and reducing social isolation.
    - I have over 8 years experience working in the hospitality industry which involved managing teams and training people in a number of different positions.
    - I’m a good vegan cook and love learning about recipes from different cultures.
    - Working at a Museum and Art Gallery for 2 years has given me excellent communication and teamwork skills.

I have a natural curiosity that leads me to be easily interested in various subjects and I pick up new skills quickly by being an eager learner. I believe there’s a lesson in each task that you do no matter what it is. The more skills you learn, the more wisdom you gain - it’s a win for everyone!
