  • Description

Hello I am Eliot from Edinburgh, Scotland.
I am planning to be in Peru from the 11th of December until the 11th of March.
I am generally looking for opportunities in staying in with local people, travellers in community, place where I can build, create friendship, create a beautiful environment, work with great people, learn and develop my skills.

I love being outside and getting stuck into projects, building, going for hikes, playing music chilling out and reading and book.
having good conversation with friends, meeting new people and seeing new cultures.

I'm from Edinburgh which is we're I am at the moment, since November 2024, where I'm working as a support worker, building a beautiful little hut for my family(see pictures) and completing my drving license.
though most of the past few years I've spent in a beautiful off-grid retreat centre called Spirit Horse in Mid Wales. An incredible place of 250 acres of ancient forest, water falls, rivers tucked in at end of a luscious valley.
I'm actually coming to Peru for a retreat with Spirit Horse, who are collaborating with a centre near Iquitos, which is in January.
Here I've been a part of the core crew for about 3 years, helping run the place doing everything from building roundhouses, one of Europes largest timber roundhouses, to cooking for up to 250 people , providing firewood for the camp and of course taking part in brilliant and intense retreats and rituals
    Check out the website- www.spirithorse.co.uk
Here I've learnt a lot of skills and a lot about myself and how to get along and live with people.

This one of my biggest passions, creating wild and naturally community which is in accordance with nature and the land, striving to be that anyway, not saying it's going to perfect.
So I want to help out and be involved in any places which share the same passion!

Generally I'm a pretty easy going, I love being socially but at times like my own space, I love working on a project I can get really stuck into and add some creative flare to it.
I am pretty independent so I am very happy being left with a bunch of task to get on with my self on with a group.
I speak little Spanish but during this trip I really want to get stuck in and learn as much as I Can !
    Here we go!

  • More details about your skills

I can comfortably build a house (apart from plumbing and electrics) in the style I know how to.
I am not an expert in any of these parts of building and have not trained formally I've learnt everything on the job.
I can do carpentry, roofing, plastering, flooring, concreting, insulating, etc. etc.

I am currently fininshing a little hut for my family, in which the walls are of sea shells plasterered on , see photos !
I would love to build a large house which all walls of sea shells if anyone is interested or more small huts.

I have not done any natural building but would love to and am sure my skills will transfer over very well.

At living on an off grid community where there is constantly so much to do, I've grown and learnt a lot , general maintenance of the camp, building, running events and head cheffing or helping to cook for groups of normally 30 - 50 people but often 70-100 and up to 250 people, I am the camps main person for providing firewood with chainsaw , axe.

I spent a year and 6 months working as a carer, supporting people with Alzheimer's, schysophrenia, learning difficulties, etc.
which was a very beautiful experience which taught me a lot of patience

In Edinburgh at the moment I'm working as a support worker with a young man with cerebral palsy, in this job I don't do much personal care, I am basically a companion to make his life as enjoyable as possible. so I have to be patient, high energy, always having fun and making games, it can tiring but I really love it and seeing the impact I have on him and his family's life.

I am very physically fit and I really love working especially with a group of high energy people who have a good sense of humour , humour to me is fundamental to a good working environment!
I do love working by myself also, but a balance for me is needed.

I'm really looking forward to developing my skills more , learning from others and teaching what I know.
As I say I really love building, so to be able to build things of my own design is really where I work best
But of course I want to learn other style too!
