  • Description

    Hey there,
My name is Meredith I am 28 soon to be 29. I have been traveling on and off for about the past 10 years. I am originally from North Carolina where I was born and raised. Traveling to me is such a special privilege to be able to see the world and meet locals along the way. I currently live in Hendersonville, NC where I stay with family and am working as a painter. While here, I've been taking classes at my local community college studying Horticulture. The outdoors, plants, and growing things has always been a big passion of mine, and I want to learn all there is! I'm also hopeful that I can pass on any knowledge that I've learned along the way through my travels, experiences, and studies.

In this workaway endeavor, I want to learn as much as I can about permaculture and homesteading- that is, as much as there is to learn about operating sustainably, largely off grid, all it takes to do that. I'm interested in expanding my knowledge around what it takes to grow a full variety of veggies as well as growing fruit trees.
I have done a 3month internship on a farm before and I know the hard work that it took. I still desire to see more of this operation further, from other perspectives.

Some values that I live by: respecting the earth, and all living beings, open honest communication, honoring my personal boundaries and respecting others', slow living through creative solutions and minimal consumerism, conscious food choices: making food choices that don't exploit or intentionally harm animals, following the guidance of your heart above your head, and sharing what you have and looking out for one another, because we are all one people on this earth.

Some things about me, I am a very relaxed and happy person, and very optimistic by nature. The little things bring me the most joy. I'm a spiritual person; I like to practice intentionality and gratitude towards life! I love to be outside, in the forest, in a river, lake, pond, or ocean. I love activities that combine the outdoors like rock climbing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snowboarding, surfing, bike riding, roller blading, swimming, backpacking. I also love crafting, making art from nature, painting, drawing and cooking. I've also recently taken up jujutsu, which I really love. I love to read, and journal, and be introspective sometimes and I also really enjoy being around other people. And I love to dance. :)

  • More details about your skills

I have some farm experience from university; I partook in an internship on a large scale produce farm where I learned about working with the earth, tilling, naturally preparing the soil, germinating seeds, learning when to harvest, caring for the plants along the way, preparing them for the market, as well as participating in selling at markets too. And honestly, I want to learn even more about this whole process, for someday when I have my own homestead and grow all my own food. I want to learn more depth in the area of best soils for specific plants, best times to propagate certain plants, and everything else I don't know I want to learn yet!

I want to gain more experience working with the land, and learning from other people. And that includes a love for working with farm animals too! I want to learn how to work more closely and symbiotically with the land, growing food, living sustainably and living in harmony with animals. In school I studied sustainable development, so sustainability is a big passion/interest for me.

I also have lots of experience caring for children of all ages. I have been babysitting for families since I was 12 years old, and have been an in-home nanny to a 3 month old!

Other skills include very basic general construction- insulation, sheet rocking, demolition, basic power tool usage and understanding. My dad was a general contractor so I picked up some basic skills along the way... :-)

Homesteading- making bread, general cooking/baking/meal prepping (primary experience cooking vegetarian/vegan, but also knowledgeable in traditional American cooking with meat and dairy/eggs). I've done a small amount of wild foraging, but have much more to learn in this area! I enjoy cooking and actually enjoy doing dishes so I am happy to help out in the evenings to help clean up/tidy up.

House cleaning- organizing clutter, cleaning up, sweeping/mopping type of cleaning, and general addition of Feng shui to a living space is a real joy of mine. :)

Artistic Additions- sharing a creative flow, wall art, nature bouquets, rock sculptures, painting, and I have some experience creating murals.

Experience and interest in trail making! Creating an outdoor space is a passion, an interest, and a hobby, and would love to help anyone on a project of this kind! Creating anything outside would be super fun...a sauna, an earthen room, trails, a pond, a gazebo...let's do it!

interested in learning more about wild medicinal herbs. I have a strong passion for herbal plant medicine, and mostly I just drink a lot of herbal tea. I do feel like I have a strong foundation of herbal knowledge that I could share if anyone was interested in a chat. :)
