Description
Hey there! My name is David, and I live in a town called Tilburg in the Netherlands. In 2016 I graduated from my Photography BA, then worked in film production and documentary research, and in communications for a film theatre and a festival for experimental arts. In the summer of 2023 I finished my Master’s in Art and Digital Culture Studies. After some time in museum programming and cultural-sector work, I stepped away from that. For the past 1.5 years I’ve worked in a tea and coffee specialty store, and I genuinely love it.
I’m on Workaway because I love to meet people with different ideas. I like to take care of people and places, and like learning the practical skills that keep an autonomous life afloat: a household, a garden, a small community or what else.
I’ll be honest: Workaway can be a tempting platform for romantic escape fantasies. I’m not immune to that. But I try to keep my feet on the ground. The platform simply enables me to take a break from everyday life, taking space for reflection, become inspired, meet amazing people, while making myself useful at the same time! It's truly about the exchange for me. Clear agreements, a steady rhythm, and direct communication make the exchange good for everyone. I’m also aware the city-to-rural switch can be awkward at first, so I try to arrive with humility, respect, and earn trust through consistency.
I’m a music and cinema person, and I’m interested in politics and the bigger questions behind how we live. I like conversations that are honest and specific. I’m also a homebody in the best sense: I’m good at creating warmth in a space through cooking, cleaning, organizing, decorating, building and taking care of the day-to-day. I used to clean houses for elderly people for a living, in which I found meaning. Cleaning clears my mind, and I’m not above repetitive tasks.

- I'm relaxed around children and know how approach them.
- I also know how to take care of animals: donkeys, dogs, chicken, etc.
