  • Description

Coleman: I'm very adventurous and hard-working, but I'm also pretty easy-going and enjoy just going with the flow. I really appreciate a job well done, and enjoy problem-solving and trouble-shooting. I've always been an outdoorsy person, spending most of my childhood outside exploring nearby woodlands and working on little projects. I'm pretty handy with basic carpentry, landscaping, gardening, home improvement, and outdoor/forestry work. I have a good deal of ingenuity, and can usually make do with limited resources. I'm a very optimistic guy, and always try to see the positives in things even when they go wrong. I have a BS degree in Kinesiology, a minor in Ecology, and a minor in Psychology from Texas A&M University, and really enjoy learning about pretty much anything.

I've been fortunate enough to travel to Costa Rica (with a high school friend) and to Brazil (on a Wildlife/Fisheries study abroad). These were amazing experiences and both further solidified my desire to travel and fully experience different cultures with all kinds of different people. I have volunteer work experience from various church trips in high school, mostly improving people's homes (painting, replacing siding, etc.)

I really enjoy making music, hiking, bouldering, surfing, camping, and pretty much any other outdoor activities. I don't yet have any teaching experience, but I have my TEFL certification and can help out with teaching English if applicable. I'm stoked about seeing new places and meeting new people, and can't wait to get going on this journey!

Emily: I quickly found since graduating college that I want more for my life than a 9-to-5 occupation. I've always been adventurous, curious, and drawn to new things. Being in nature grounds me, and discovering new places brings me great joy. I grew up in South Texas, and my first time out of state was the summer after my sophomore year of high school when I went to New York City. Additionally, I was able to spend two weeks in India during college. I have spent some time in other states, but have mainly travelled throughout Texas, and I am beyond ready to see as much of the world as I can.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and am particularly drawn to learning through sociology and psychology. I have managerial and leadership experience, and I am great at organizing and problem-solving. I am empathetic, caring, and am most satisfied with my life when I am doing something productive with my hands. I've spent time gardening, painting, clearing land, and doing yardwork; I am well-versed in childcare, customer service, cooking, and cleaning. I am also extremely willing and able to learn new skills along the way!

I enjoy hiking, bouldering, camping, live music, baking, drawing, reading, deep conversation, and making teas and cuddling with my cat. I am probably my happiest when I am exploring the outdoors with Coleman and friends. I'm more introverted than extraverted, and usually need some quiet solitude to balance the rush of everyday life.

I am beyond excited to learn more of the world through this program and can't wait for all the new people we are going to meet!
