Hello,
I'm a 41 year old photographer and mother to a 5 year old. We're both outdoor kitties, seeking natural areas as much as possible to hike, bike and play in but I love big cities too so ideally we'll find time for both. My degrees were in art and environmental science two things still close to my heart. I recently joined Workaway in hopes of spending a month or two of our winter/spring in Italy (and/or Spain) where we have friends and relatives. I'm happy to provide photography services (family portraits/events/product) and/or child care. I've had dogs and cats all my life and grew up on a small horse farm so have a lot of animal care experience as well. I'm also a part-time house sitter.
Having managed a vegetable garden at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin estate, a national historic landmark and architecture school, I would be thrilled to pitch in on horticultural projects.
As a Montessori educator I had the pleasure of teaching (and learning from) preschool aged kids, an experience I bring to my parenting and other people's children.
Winter is my slow season and my son starts Kindergarten in the fall so I'd love to take advantage of our last bit of freedom from the public school schedule. He's in a half day dual language (english/spanish) preschool where we live in California but I'd love for him to be immersed in another culture and language abroad. Learning some Italian would be wonderful.

I've always felt that it's such a gift when children are raised bilingual. I learned Norwegian at the same time I learned English but lost it when we moved back to the U.S. I'm hoping my son can learn Spanish since there's a growing population of Spanish speakers in the US, but Italian would be great too. I'm of course happy to help hosts practice English if desired.

What else ...
My father's side is from Italy and I've always wanted to reconnect with my cousins whom I havent visited since I was my son's age. I lived in Norway for the first 3-4 years of my life and my father was an airline pilot so I could fly standby for free until I was 25 but my time abroad has been limited since. I'd really love to instill the same love for travel in my son while he's young and adaptable. He's incredibly social and loves making new friends of all ages so I'm seeking a family friendly host.
