  • Description

I graduated from college in May of 2022 with a degree in medical anthropology and sociology, and the content of these two majors called me to explore the vast wisdom offered by different cultures and life practices across the world. Really they created this internal impetus to become a citizen and student of the world. I think I have come to realize the individual power each of us holds in the betterment of the world, and this has motivated my pursuit of benefiting the global community, displacing my privilege, and relishing in the happiness that comes with service. So, in the long-term, I hope to pursue work in the global healthcare and community development, non-profit sector, where my knowledge from school can blend with the skills I have begun to gain through my time as a workawayer.

Since graduation, I have worked at five different farms across three countries. I started with a two month stay at a small organic farm in Ireland. Here I worked with animals, medicinal herbs and traditional produce production. I oversaw the care of 15 egg-producing chickens, raised 20 meat chickens from small chicklets to slaughter, three ducks and honey bees. I helped run a by weekly medicinal herb education course and gathered plant-use knowledge from the herbalist. I helped harvest, prune and weed potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions, and squash. From here I went to Portugal for five weeks where I helped build a terrace retention wall to expand the growing space of the residency. I expanded my skills in rebar fortifying, traditional Portuguese cinder block construction, concrete use and general building. After a break in travel during the spring, I went out to Maine and worked at three different farms during the summer. In the early summer season, I harvested strawberries for a large farm. Then as that season came to a close I transitioned to two small organic family farms where I helped with the planting, weeding, harvesting and processing of a large collection of produce: pumpkins, squash, eggplants, tomatoes, garlic, corn, etc.

This past spring my partner and I converted a honda pilot into a camper car. We did all the deconstruction/preparation, designing and set-up construction ourselves. We focused on using reclaimed wood and recycled materials!

  • More details about your skills

    - I have about 9 months of farming experience that ranges from construction to large-scale harvesting to small scale land and plant harvesting/care to animal care to compost pile production to medical herb knowledge to farm grant writing to farm construction.
    - I LOVE to cook and find great inspiration from producing dishes that are seasonal.
    - In May of 2023 I graduated Cum Laude from Creighton University with an Honors B.A. in Medical Anthropology and Sociology. I also completed two minors in Public Health and Global Health Equity. My studies provided me with an eclectic cultural, social, medical, biological, and linguistic knowledge background. They asked me to challenge the standards of normalcy, capitalist-driven globalization practices, and institutional power. They fed my empathy skills. They encouraged me to redefine my definitions of wellness, ownership, food, distribution, and equity.
    - I have a year of experience as a barista! This cultivated skills in coffee and drink making, money handling, interpersonal interactions, industrial kitchen food preparation, safe food handling, cleaning on a detailed and mass scale, and normalized full days of being on my feet.
    - I have taught students of various skill levels and disabilities, ranging from pre-kindergarten to post-high school age. I have given prescribed, after-school and alternative-education lessons in all core subjects, free-play, and socio-emotional learning; I was a classroom assistant in Bologna, Italy; have coached children (5-18) in running and swimming; and worked for six months as a long term high school substitute.
    - I have conducted research for my university and as an outside contractor for a school district in Colorado. My work was grounded in the social sciences and examined the effect of self-isolation and quarantine on students and students' educational experience throughout the pandemic.
    - I have worked as an administrative assistant in two law offices.
    - I have worked extensively with Chromebook set-up and trouble-shooting, the Google suite for businesses/large organizations, and library catalog infrastructure.
    - I worked as an event planner/coordinator and social media/physical marketer for Creighton's Violence, Intervention, and Prevention Center.
    - I am certified in CPR, First Aid, AED use, Sexual/Emotional/Physical Misconduct Awareness, and interpersonal violence victim assistance
    - I have experience in composting, community gardening, and small-scale, indoor garden start-ups.
    - I have assisted in small-scale construction projects, both designing and building. I have built beds, lofts, and a shed with my father. So, I am comfortable using power tools, painting, staining, fixing, laying tile, laying wood flooring, and building reinforced structures.
    - I have basic car mechanic knowledge: oil changing, brake changing, and tire rotation.
    - I love to cook, especially for others! I have always prided myself on my dinner parties :)
    - I spent a semester living in Bologna, Italy! So know some light conversational Italian.
