Description
Hello, I'm Bray. I'm 24 years old, from England.
I'm friendly and easy going, but also enthusiastic and and a hard worker. My main passions are art (drawing and painting), reading and music, and i'm interested in working with environmental projects, especially marine conservation. I'm looking to learn as much as I can about other cultures and ways of life.
In 2019/20 I travelled to Indonesia and Malaysia, and worked on 2 long workaway placements at dive resorts. These were huge experiences for me I am excited what my next workaway job will be!
In Indonesia I ran a marine waste management programme (beach cleanups) , and helped with environmental science lessons with a local school (in class and on school trips). In Malaysia I was a conservation officer at a dive resort, which included marine waste management, coral clean ups, and tending to a coral nursery.
At both placements I also happily got involved with general labouring, helping with tourists and helping the staff wherever I could. Aside from my focus on environmental work I am keen on leaning whatever new things I can, meaning helping in the kitchen, helping with construction, helping with boats, animals, etc.
As a result of this experience I now write for a Indonesian marine waste management NGO, and environmental journalism has become one of my favourite personal projects. Depending on my future hosts ideas, I could potentially write for the online presences of more projects along these lines.
I enjoyed my degree in Zoology (graduating in 2018), and my research topic looked at reef sharks in the Indian Ocean. I remain particularly interested in marine conservation, and also environmental issues in general.
I have worked as a waiter and bartender, delivery cyclist and bookseller. I have also held scientific placements and have volunteered as a teaching assistant, with my local disabled community and environmental organisations. These experiences are fairly varied and I feel they have imbued me with adaptability in new workplaces and a strong work ethic.
In my spare time, I read (mostly modern fiction, autobiographies, natural science, politics and history), exercise (swimming, running and cycling), and i'm a big music fan. I'm also learning Spanish (beginners level). I easy going in social settings and also happy to be left to my own devices and as I always have a project to work on.
I have a couple of projects I'm working on currently. My main hobby, drawing, has become a side project as I now collaborate with bands, venues, and events to produce artwork for them. I'm working on a blog where I interview authors, write book reviews, and journalistic pieces, all accompanied by my own illustrations (usually following an environmental theme).
My passion for environmental work drives me to constantly gain more experience, develop more knowledge, and improve my skills.
Thank you for reading this, and message me for any more info!
Cheers,
