Description

Hello future hosts! I look forward to meeting you, being an additional set of hands, becoming friends, immersing in your lives, and sharing mine. It is my passion to learn and blend into cultures other than my own, adapting easily into lifestyles and routines.

Prior to 2017 I was the working owner of a medical-legal transcription business for more than 35 years in Southern California, USA. As of May 2017 life as a nomad began, traveling to 77 countries and counting. This life has suited me well. In addition to this site, I have 10 glowing reviews from a similar volunteer organization and 1 at another.

I am healthy, self motivated, confident and adventurous. Raised my family as a single mom. My strengths are organization, managing a household, have experience with painting/minor repairs in a home, and room painting has been praised at a professional level. :-) I have volunteered with couples, families, single women or men needing a hand in all types of endeavors, ranging from 10 days to three months. A few volunteer positions have been in the USA, but mostly internationally. I have sat with students for 6 hours of online schooling, taught in public and private schools with the teacher present, helped with children, pets, parents, yard work or gardening, been the only cook in the home, ran a new restaurant with the owner only, refinished a large wood fence, painted furniture, organized kitchens, and many other things. Have also participated in 10 English immersion programs throughout Europe.

My diet is plant based but do indulge in butter. No issues cooking nonvegan for others.

Water sports, dancing different styles, staying fit, and living life joyfully are at the top of my list. Love and appreciate the arts. My passion is alternative medicine/natural healing. Ideally would like to meet others in the alternative health/dance/new age fields but not required. :-)

Sharon is astoundingly energetic. I am not very experienced as a director of others. In that context, she enthusiastically responded to my tentative requests and repeatedly took them to a much higher level than I had envisioned, initiating with creative ideas and follow-through actions and work which produced some amazing transformations. She has a lot of good ideas about what seems like virtually everything (which the help of Google at times) and was great at the brainstorming dialogue needed to co-create new, better, more tidy and organized spaces and systems both throughout the house and for the various jobs and projects that I engage in, in the house.

She was not only willing to take on some of the very hardest hardest work, but she actively volunteered some of it! I had thought that the ceiling projects were way way too hard – extremely detailed and back-breaking, both - but she wanted to do it, and did a fabulous job and the rooms would not have looked nearly as good, if I had just let that one pass! Thanks so much to Sharon!!!

Literally every day, I noticed great little enhancing touches which were not even part of her job – she just always did EXTRA – extra cleaning, extra organizing/tidying/picking up. She provided a wonderful feeling of peace in the household both with her fun, enthusiastic, smart, gentle, kind and fascination conversation and personality, but also, because she always sought to make the environment – the house – nicer and nicer – which produced a greater and greater comfort and peace in the house the longer that she was here! She gave me quite a number of “Eureka’s” with her creative ideas for making things nicer, that I had not previously thought of. She is clever! She reused, repurposed and recycled with creativity and purpose.

I was inspired by her willingness to explore all that the area had to offer, even when in this era of covid there isn’t nearly as much as there usually is. She worked and worked here, and then dressed up a bit, looking beautiful, and out she went, exploring, with lots of fun stories when she got back. We went out hiking several together as well. She clearly gets joy out of making people happy and she took some great pictures of me – which is a delight for me because relatively rare! Thanks, Sharon!!!

I am a nutritionist, so I also really appreciated how health conscious she is and how healthfully she cooked! We both cooked and we both ate really well, for health! That was another great connection.

She is a very good driver and it was easy for me to let her borrow my car.

Here is another HUGE one – she could have relaxed in DC when I went to PA to do some serious work on my family’s 1911 house. But, instead, she went with me, saw the huge mess and dived right in, helping to make a great impact on the ongoing progress in that old house, in the 5 days that we were there. She is also simply a fun and happy person. She was super happy about some of the more unusual grocery stores that I have found en route in PA – it was fun to have someone match my enthusiasm – for these grocery stores, but also for life!!

Life exposes itself at times when folks live together. She is wise and insightful about some of the personal issues that popped up for me while she was there. I am grateful for her wise and insightful responses to some questions and uncertainties which came up in my life while she was here.

At one point there were several people here, of different ages, and she was clearly the one who was the easiest for every one to get along with and thus the main connector of the group! She was the most instrumental in creating community among the varied personality - she gets along with everyone!

She was also comfortable to be with. She was always cheerful, kind and connecting. She was always energetic and eager to move life forward and willing to do the work to make it happen!

I will likely continue to be in touch with Sharon, as a friend – hopefully for a great deal of time to come!

I would highly and enthusiastically recommend Sharon!! She is a worker, a finisher, a creative, a connector, and a joy!!
