  • Description

I go by Bender, and I was born in Novo Hamburgo/RS, a medium-sized city in the southern part of Brazil. I am currently studying history and sociology in the United States of America.

My bachelor's degree pursuit in the USA is a result of my drive to understand different cultures and my bigger goal to one day pass my knowledge to others being a professor.

I am motivated easily by new experiences and learning situations (no matter how bizarre they may seem at first). My biggest goal in life is to understand better humans and how we interact, and any possibility to have contact with people warms my heart!

  • More details about your skills

    • 2014 – 2018 - In high school, I worked in restaurants as a waiter, in a library as a librarian assistant, and as a Teacher Assistant for Physics.
Experience working with people, and this is my favorite labor position.

    • 2018 - Certified in industrial mechanics work - technician course
Experience working in the area for one year. Thus, I am familiar with some mechanical designing and building techniques, civil construction aspects, and I am eager to learn more about it.

    • 2019 - joined the Brazilian army, and I am a reserve infantry lieutenant.
Learned about organizational and leadership skills. Also, a lot of good stories to share!

    • 2020 - I came to the United States with a full-ride (tuition and room-and-board) scholarship to pursue a higher education degree (Berea College, class of 2023'). While in the USA:

1st job – Assistant in the restaurant of the college.
Attribution: helping cooking and cleaning for student body (around 1600 students.)

2nd - Salesperson and city’s history assistant-research and guide in Visitor Center at Berea/ Kentucky.
Attribution: working with the public, stocking management, and organizational routines. My favorite part was sharing the history of the city with tourists.

3rd - Resident Advisor at Berea College (students living on-campus).
Attribution: responsible for maintaining the rules, solving resident's conflicts, and organizing events.

4th - Assistant Researcher at NYU Langone Health on Population Health.
Attribution: responsible for outreach for participants, qualitative data analysis, and summarizing documents.

5th - Assistant at Educational Farm at Berea College
Attributions: anything that a farm with cattle (meat, no dairy), chickens, and pigs do. I fed the animals, cleaned their spots when needed, assisted in births when needed, and others.

    6th - Framing Carpenter
Attributions: assisting in the framing of American wood houses. I learned some basic things, and I know how to be useful haha.

PS: While in college, I also took a Wilderness First-Aid course, learning the basics of how to deal with medical emergencies while in the wild.

Other than my previous experience, I am eager to learn new things and to try new experiences. I am searching for new perspectives on life, so I am looking forward to giving my best in any opportunity I have.
