Hi my name is Anna and I’m 19 currently on a gap year having just returned from Peru where I was working as a Kitesurf instructor! I am a solo traveler looking to volunteer or work with people in order to help and give back whilst having an adventure. I am an ocean addict and am constantly searching for adventures and experiences! My aim of this gap year was to explore and grow in independence and I want to immerse myself in different cultures to better my understanding of the world and hopefully make a difference to peoples lives. I love seeing the untouched treasures of the world and meeting locals.
My biggest passion is kitesurfing and am going to study maths and sports science at university in September. I am creative, enthusiastic, will get stuck into anything and a complete people person! I look forward to meeting you!

I would love to learn more languages however I am dyslexic so would be an enthusiastic but slow learner!!! I am teaching myself a bit of Spanish (slowly!!) using duolingo, after spending 3months living in Peru.

I am a fervent team player who will lend a hand at anything and get stuck in!
I am a qualified kitesurfing and paddle boarding instructor with lots of experience working with all ages as well as volunteering at Woodbury CofE primary school engaging in Forest school, preparing class room activities and supporting learning and reading. I love working with children and bringing smiles to their faces! (I have a DBS certificate and am a qualified level 2 sports leader)
I have also worked with Disabilities volunteering at Magic carpets running a drama group for adults with disabilities, as well as volunteering at Stalcombe lodge residential home helping disabled adults on the farm. I love to be creative and imaginative to engage and inspire them.
I am resilient and resourceful having travelled solo to work as a Kitesurf instructor in Peru.
Finally, I studied Maths, further maths, chemistry and Drama at Alevel so have a range of interests and lots of enthusiasm and skills to offer. I was part of the Head girl team showing leadership and initiative running dog walking clubs for mentorship with younger/older students and running big school events and fundraisers
I hope I can be an invaluable support to my host!

I love the sea, sky, mountains rivers and rocks! Kitesurfing is where my heart lies however I also love mountain biking and rock climbing and just generally dipping in the sea no matter the weather!
I also am creative, I love to dance act and do arty crafty things!
I am a volunteer DJ on the hospital radio so love to find wacky and interesting new music to cheer up the patients and listeners
I have a cockapoo called Billy whizz, a chicken called Banksy and a tortoise called Fidget who all bring me joy!

I came to the academy as my first work away adventure, I stayed only 2 weeks however I would have loved to stay longer. Words cannot describe the impact this place has on the lives of the children it looks after and the connections you make are beyond special they are magical. I knew very little Turkish when I arrived and if you have the… read more time/space to learn a few basic words to be able to communicate with the children then I believe this will really benefit your confidence - this being said, I found it surprisingly easy to communicate with the children through universal languages of play and creativity. I have had a lot of experience working with people with disabilities of all ages and although this was useful it is defiantly not essential, and as long as you want to help and can keep up with a 5 year olds endless energy then you will have the experience of a life time. I worked a lot with children with Down syndrome having had a lot of previous experience, however there are children with all disabilities and the longer you can stay the more you can build trust and develop a relationship. I was lucky enough to be a part of the academies DS project where I worked closely with one boy and his mum for a whole week - this project was hugely successful and the range of workshops and skills covered where brilliantly thought out and my pleasure to be able to help facilitate such amazing work.
The academy is situated in the most surreal location and I loved just heading out and exploring the caves and fairy chimneys. If you are a keen rock climber this place is a paradise (although the rock has a tendency to crumble as I found out!!) On my days off I managed to get a mountain bike tour which was insane and very hard work for those who also seek adrenaline and adventure (even riding the Red Bull team route and the course of the world cup). I also witnessed the whirling dervishes, the sunset by horseback, toured the valleys, made pottery and witnessed the most fairytale balloon extravaganza (defiantly worth the 4.45am wake up!).
Most importantly the people here make you feel instantly at home. Melissa is so kind and caring, a mixture of a mother figure and a best friend, Esme is wonderful with the children and they all adore her and its easy to understand why! Fatma is a brilliant cook making delicious local Turkish delicacies, Eshan is the horse whisperer and Hissan (the founder) joins you for most meals and is always fun and has brilliant knowledge of the area (a true cave man!) and I loved seeing his flipping pigeons (literally the weirdest form of evolution I have ever seen!)
I cannot recommend this place enough and I will defiantly be returning. It is impossible not to come out of this place a better person and I cannot thank everyone there enough for their hospitality and kindness.
