Description
Ciao, I'm Alessia and I am 23, from Bologna. I work at a piadina place, write about art on the side, and spend a lot of time in galleries, cinemas, and anywhere something interesting is happening. My background is in aesthetics and contemporary art, and I have a few ongoing projects that keep me busy and curious. It's a world I love, but it's mostly Italian, mostly urban, mostly familiar. I'm ready to bring that curiosity somewhere it hasn't been yet.
What really drives me is genuine connection. When I meet the right person, conversation can go on for hours and I leave feeling like something shifted. I'm genuinely curious about lives that look nothing like mine: different routines, different ways of seeing, different relationships with place and time.
I've camped and road-tripped across Italy quite a few times, always near rivers or lakes rather than the sea. I'm no hiking expert, but I'm comfortable outdoors and happy to be uncomfortable...that's kind of the point.
I've traveled quite a bit around Europe (Bucharest, Tirana, Sofia, Budapest, Prague, Montenegro...) but always in short bursts, never more than a week. This Bulgaria trip is my first time slowing down deliberately, staying long enough to actually get a feel for a place rather than just passing through it. I'll be traveling by local buses, heading toward the Black Sea and possibly the Turkish border by late September.
I chose WorkAway because I don't want to just be a tourist. I want to work with my hands, share meals, have real conversations, and notice things I'd miss if I were rushing.
I believe beauty is in the way you learn to look. I'm here to practice that. -

More details about your skills
I've spent the last few years working in restaurants and cafés, so I'm comfortable in team environments and good at adapting on the go. I can cook — nothing fancy, but made with care. I'm vegetarian, so I work a lot with vegetables and I'm always happy to bring that into the kitchen.
I have a lot of experience with children of different ages — from toddlers to pre-teens — through babysitting and summer camps. I'm patient, attentive, and genuinely enjoy their company.
On the creative side, I have hands-on experience with exhibition setup and takedown, visual communication, and social media. I also do collage and a bit of photography, mostly as personal practice.
I've done some manual volunteer work — haymaking, basic renovation — and while I wouldn't call myself an expert, I show up, I follow instructions, and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I drive and I cycle.
I'm a fast learner and I find real satisfaction in picking up practical skills I've never tried before. That's actually one of the reasons I'm here. -
