Hey there!
I'm Simon, 35yo guy from Belgium.
It's always hard to describe your personality in a few lines but I'll do my best!
WHERE I COME FROM:
My roots are in Wallonia, the French speaking part of Belgium but I also speak Dutch after spending 4 years in the Flemish region, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium.
WHO I AM:
I think of myself as a traveler of the world, trying to find that little place that will make me stay put but until now I'm still addicted to moving and hitting the road. My way of travelling is by finding jobs along, mixing with locals, see the country in full view and learning languages along the way.
I'm a very curious guy, laid back, open to everyone ideas and customs.
I like to explore the surroundings and go on hikes in the region I live.
My passions include hiking, long distance cycling, reading, travelling...sports that include nature in general.
I'm a big music lover, I don't play any instrument but I'm always listening to music of all genre and I'm a movie addict.
WHAT I DO IN BELGIUM:
I work for a small tour operator, organising trips and one day excursions from scratch. Travelling is my passion and I'm really happy I could make it my work.
My job is currently put on pause for different reasons and I decided to wanted to be useful for others.
I decided to take a month in Croatia and meet old friends I made while I was staying in Porto in 2019. Before meeting them beginning of September, I decided to spend most of August, volunteering in a project I'd find useful, helping a good cause and good people.
MY EXPERIENCE VOLUNTEERING:
A few years back, I spent a month volunteering in an eco farm in south west Portugal, Alentejo region.
I helped in the garden, with pigs, chicken, ducks, hard work, building stuff like enclosures, putting a roof on a barn...
I also traveled to Reunion Island and crossed the entire island with my rucksack (GRR2 - 140 km). After that, I helped in two different projects.
One gardening and working in a eco hostel. Second one in a eco farm, picking passion fruits, bananas, gardening and clearing the path of small trees and bad weeds.
Another experience is that time I worked in Croatia for a couple renovating their 16th century house, polishing and removing paint from their windows, all sort of manual tasks and also working the garden, rehabilitation of a deserted plot of land.
Most recently, I went closer to my house country, The Netherlands, to work in a refuge for youth, working on renovating the center, being part of a mini society, completing woodworking projects, gardening, permaculture, even a bit of electricity. I learned a lot that time!
WHY I'M ON WORKAWAY :
I needed to go back to the basics, be closed to the earth, nature and the people who actually care for each others. I want to get my hands dirty and want to do something practical: have a product at the end of the day.
I'd like to help as much as possible people who have eco-projects, hostels that need help or ONG and be a part of their dreams.
If you accept me, I'll give everything to help and be useful to your project.
I'm a hard worker full of motivation, quick learner that never hesitates to take action and initiatives. I'm easy going and easy to be around.
I'll spend the next month volunteering for projects that speak to me and I hope to see you along the way!
Recently, I started a new journey not abroad this time but within myself.
I want to know the inner me even deeper and so I stated to meditate regularly, ascend to a deeper mindset and reconnect with my own body.
If you practice yoga or meditate, that's a big plus for me!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to know you and begin this adventure! :DInterests
