Description
I think life is fluid; it changes shape. It fills the spaces it finds and expresses itself in those it seeks.

Ciao! I'm Vito. I grew up in alleys smelling of freshly baked bread. I'm from Puglia, the sunny region of southern Italy, the heel of our boot. You can see it very well since the sea almost surrounds it!

I am a romantic who wants to believe in brotherhood between people. I believe in the power of words that fix everything.

I believe in a world of abundance where the first way to receive is to give: "Treat others as you want them to treat you". Exactly the logic driving Workaway: an equal exchange in which all parties involved must be satisfied.

I have a strong love for nature; it can inspire us, unlike this age's pervasive use of technology that makes us stupid!

I have a growing range of interests; we can talk about everything.

I don't have a preference for a destination. I need to learn to speak English fluently, perhaps in England or among English people living abroad in the EU who are easier to reach. And, who knows? Maybe elsewhere.

I want to improve myself by meeting new cultures, spaces, people and acquiring new skills. I learn everything.

I'm almost a mechanical engineering graduate; I will resume my studies left for work one day. I was involved in brand design, and I learned to sail on pleasure boats three years ago, attending a course for water sports operators, but COVID-19 interrupted my practice.

I am an amateur car designer - a personal project shown in the photo section. As a digital music creator but an all-around music lover, I'd like to learn to play a musical instrument as soon as possible.

The following are the activities in which I have been involved during my Workaway experiences:

Hand weeding, repairing the roof (unsticking the old roof tiles and sticking the new ones), pruning plum trees, grapevines, and roses, harvesting and storing timber and chipboard resulting from timber shredding after pruning a big linden as well. Further: digging, clearing, and adding soil improver before finally planting out; redoing a pebble path, including replacing the anti-weed matting and washing the stones; cleaning and sorting a pantry, storage room, and kitchen. I've helped with a project for Ukrainian refugees (making boxes, sorting, packing, closing, lifting, stacking and dispatching), washing and painting whole building walls affected by Sahara dust, and more.

I'm studying web development again and would like to find time to continue doing it during my experience abroad after spending the last year and a half looking after my father, supporting him with the best diet against his auto-immune disease with fantastic results.

So, It's with great joy that I announce I'm back on track for my next adventure abroad.

That's why I can't wait to hear from you! A big hug from Italy! ;)

Thank you Vito for the lovely review of your recent workaway stay with us. Apologies for my tardiness in writing a reply but as you know, time is my enemy at the moment with the number of guests we are having and I didn’t want to put together a quick review. So here goes…

Vito came to us purely by chance and we are so glad he did. We have a… read more rental cottage that we let out to holiday guests each year with January and February being the months when we close to do all the necessary improvements and repairs. However, the start of 2022 proved to be full of surprises. We had just finished painting our rental cottage when the first of the Sandstorms from the Sahara dumped the dust and fine sand on the property. We managed to get it cleaned just in time for the arrival of our first guests from Mid March. During the week of their stay, the second of the Sandstorms came and this time even worse, with a holding pattern of around 3 days we were deluged with orange sand that stuck to everything. At this point we realised we would have to close the booking calendar for around 3 weeks in order to get everything done in time for our next guests due in April. It was at this time that Vito came to us.

Vito was on a workaway placement with some friends of ours and was due to continue his workaway adventure in the UK and fortunately for us he was unable to go. Vito came to us with the intention of staying for 2 weeks which extended to a month during which time he proved to be a great help. He was very flexible, enthusiastic, punctual and keen to learn new things. Vito has great initiative and we felt comfortable leaving him to continue his jobs without supervision. Vito proved to be worth his weight in gold and we are so grateful that our paths crossed. Vito comes across as being gentle in nature and has a thirst for knowledge. He is keen to learn English as well as accustom himself with as many dialects as possible. We had some interesting conversations especially about his keto diet. Vito was very flexible when it came to meal times. He would prepare his breakfast and lunch and we would cook in the evenings. At first I thought his Keto diet would be difficult to provide for but far from it. The only issue was to ensure he ate enough. He was also extremely tidy and very respectful of his surroundings and he also bonded well with our 4 dogs which was a surprise especially with our little black terrier.

We hope Vito continues with his workaway adventure and has the opportunity to meet more English speaking people to improve his understanding of the English language. We wish him every success for the future and hope his life is full of suprises (good ones of course)!

After a period of 2 years where we did not use Workaway (due to ill health and surgery) we decided that it would be most helpful to ask for someone to help us for a 3 week period to prepare the garden for the summer. Vito had been at a placement in France where he had been pruning various trees, and he agreed to come to "Sunny Spain" to help… read more us.
During the first week the weather was kind but very cold .He systematically weeded ,dug,cleared and added soil improver, before finally planting out,...Just before he left, the weather cleared for a couple of mornings and he relaid a pebble path including replacing the anti weed matting and washing the stones.The entire back garden has been transformed !
The weather has been appalling with Sahara dust storms (twice) and wind gusts so hard that a tree opposite was uprooted and roof tiles were blown off our roof.This has made further gardening impossible.Vito is a gentle and considerate person and without any complaint he threw himself into helping with our project for Ukranian refugees.He found himself making up boxes, sorting,packing,closing,lifting,stacking and dispatching - a task that he did with humour and great enthusiasm and gusto.I was grateful for his help as I could not have completed this on my own as the response of donations was quite overwhelming..
Vitos diet is very important to him, We found that in fact it is less complicated than a vegan or vegetarian diet and easily adapted to fit with our own.
Vito assesses his level of English as Intermediate, however I would rate it higher.During his time with us , I hope that he has learnt many nuances of the English language, as we were able to hold many intellectual conversations about current affairs ,world situations and historical events.He has a keen interest in local accents and dialects.
We were quite relaxed to extend his stay with us when his next placement collapsed , Due to our other commitments re the refugees we could not continue after the 31st however I contacted a friend who also has been a workaway host and asked if she was needing a reliable person. This place is only a few kms away so hopefully we can meet up with Vito again before he continues his own personal journey to other lands.It was like saying goodbye to a young nephew- he has fitted in so well with us and the dogs.....If in the future he were to visit , we would welcome him fondly We wish him the very best for his future..............Valerie and Miel
