Hi Workawayers! I am currently in Chiang Mai. See you around!
My next destination:
Chiang Mai Province, Thailand - from Jul 2025 until Aug 2025 View allDescription
Hi, I'm Dexter, a 40-year-old teacher from the Philippines. I spent 14 years in classrooms there, followed by 5 awesome years in the USA teaching English on a cultural exchange – what an experience! Right now, I'm actually traveling around Southeast Asia, and I'm planning to keep the adventure going by visiting some other visa-free countries with my Philippine passport (it opens up 37 possibilities!).
Looking ahead to my first Workaway, I'm really keen. Growing up in a Philippine province means I'm comfortable with all sorts of hands-on work. I'm very flexible and can pitch in with farming, bamboo crafts, and pretty much any kind of chore. That's just how life was back home. I'm excited about the chance for a cultural exchange and to see what new experiences await!Interests

More details about your skills
I absolutely love teaching young minds—it's seriously the best gift I could give! I've taught all grades in primary school and even dabbled as a college professor. I’ve got nearly 18 years of teaching experience in both the Philippines and the USA. Most of my experience is in formal classroom settings. Back in the Philippines, I coordinated all sorts of clubs, like the Boy Scouts, and worked with subjects related to academics, culture, arts, life skills, leadership, and so much more. I even tried learning Bahasa and Arabic, but I’ve kinda forgotten them since I don’t use them anymore. However, if you want to learn some languages from my home country, I’m fluent in Tagalog, Cebuano, and Hiligaynon—my native language, which is said to be the sweetest one in the Philippines!
I can sing, dance, and cook too! I think I'm a pretty good cook since my former colleagues and my landlady say I could be a chef—hahaha! Being a homeroom teacher in the Philippines really pushed me to be creative and talented, which helped shape me into a great educator. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love to travel! I keep exploring because I believe that’s the best kind of experience I can share with my students. You can’t teach what you don’t know!Age

What else ...
I've been solo backpacking for six months now since I left the USA after teaching and decided to look for a remote job. I'm still trying to figure out what works best for me. I really love hiking, reading, and singing (just for fun, like karaoke). I'm also into sports like tennis.
