  • Description

My name is Stijn, I’m 24 years old, born and raised in the Netherlands, and currently living in Rotterdam. I recently completed my master’s degree in Tax Economics, marking the end of my student years. At the moment, I’m in a period without any obligations, until I decide to find a job and start my professional career. I’m using this time to focus on myself and recharge – something I might not have done enough of during the busy student life. It’s also the perfect opportunity to explore the world a bit.

I enjoy experiencing the peace and beauty of nature, preferably while taking a walk under a gentle sun. It’s my way of clearing my mind from the noise of everyday life. On beautiful days, I sometimes take the time to sit and watch the sunset, occasionally with a glass of wine in hand. For several years now, I’ve been going on hiking trips every summer with a few friends. These hikes often take us through remote natural areas, equipped with large backpacks and tents. There’s something special about sleeping in a tent, tucked away in a comfortable mummy-shaped sleeping bag, listening to the sounds of nature around me. And of course, campfires are an essential part of the experience.

I’m someone who values companionship and enjoys spending time with others. I love having meaningful conversations and building genuine, mutual connections – though I sometimes need a short moment to get comfortable with new people. Additionally, I enjoy contributing to others. For about four years now (one of which I served on the board), I’ve been volunteering with a foundation that helps people with limited means navigate the (admittedly overly complicated) process of filing their income taxes. This kind of work gives me a sense of fulfillment.

People could describe me as cheerful, kind, sincere, calm, trustworthy, enthusiastic, smart, eager to learn, and driven.

Although I am not formally trained for a physical profession, I can be quite handy with various tasks around the house for someone my age. Since leaving my parents’ house, I’ve often taken on the role of handyman (I live with four housemates). Recently, I fixed a clogged drain by disassembling all the pipes under the sink, which made me realize that plumbing might not be as difficult as it sounds (though it can definitely be quite messy). Thanks to three flat bike tires in just over a month, I’ve also become reasonably skilled at fixing bicycles. I can also handle tasks like painting a wall and a lot of things in the garden – I find mowing the grass pretty relaxing.

My father is usually the first person I call when I need help with something I have no experience with. Whenever he helps me, I make sure to learn enough so that I can do it entirely on my own the next time. Additionally, I have some knowledge about digital devices and can often troubleshoot or assist with technical issues.

I don’t mind physical work or getting dirty – I’d happily roll in the mud if needed. I’m also fit and active. Last year, I completed the Rotterdam Marathon in 3 hours and 45 minutes, and I regularly go to the gym.

All in all, I might not have the most experience, but with clear instructions, I pick up new skills quickly and can accomplish a lot. I also genuinely enjoy learning new things. On top of that, I have a good eye for detail – I’m not a fan of half-hearted work.
