  • Description

    Hello Hello!
My name is Simone and I am a 25 year old girl from Germany. After finishing my training as a social assistant mainly focused on early childhood education in 2018, I started my journey as an Au pair in Northern Norway and gained my first working experiences abroad. After a year of staying with the loveliest host family I could imagine, I came to the decision to continue my travels and found out about workaway. Impressed by the endless opportunities and the possibility to learn new skills and gain knowledge from others all around the world, while being able to offer a helping hand, I started my first workaway in a little Hostel in Estonia for 4 months, which was followed by a stay at an animal shelter for horses, goats, sheep and more in Hungary for almost 2 years until 2021.
Finally stepping out of Europe after Covid I started as a volunteer in a German language institute in Mongolia, which turned into a 1 and 1/2 year long stay as a German language teacher, while working full time at a bilingual Kindergarten as well.
I wanted to see more of Asia and continued travelling through Cambodia, where I volunteered as an English language teacher, as well as Malaysia, where I sharpened my horseback archery skills during a workaway position at a horse riding school and finally Indonesia. Continuing the journey through Australia to meet an extraordinarily welcoming host family with 3 loving kids, I was excited to come back to my original start as an Au pair. After almost a year in New Zealand and an unforgettable workaway experience at a whale watching resort in Tonga, I'm now back in Europe, working as a Housekeeper through the summer season in Norway.
Since my contract will end in October, I'm more than excited to start a new workaway position in November this year and can't wait to see a new part of this world, experience a new way of living, meet incredible people and learn as much as possible, while sharing enthusiasm, motivation and effort from my side.
I always thought the best way to experience a new country is to stay long term, live and work in it so you can really dive into the culture.
My colleagues and friends describe me as an open minded person with a happy attitude that is ready for an adventure at any time. Working in a team is easy for me and through my past years I could develop my communication skills especially in an international working environment. Adapting to a new way of working and living is another thing I learned from my volunteering experiences and I gladly say it is getting easier with each time. Staying in remote locations is not a problem for me and in the past years I learned to love the calmness of places in the middle of nowhere as well as cold and tough weather circumstances.
Hiking, horse riding and playing the Ukulele are my number 1 hobbies and my backpack is always packed for the next camping trip, be it by foot, horse or boat. I have a deep love for animals since I grew up with pets all around the house, did about 7 years of horse riding in my childhood and are experienced in taking care of dogs, goats, cats and more.

Thank you for reading through my profile and I hope you will consider me as your next workawayer!

  • More details about your skills

In the 2 year lasting education to become a social assistent I did come to the truth that I appreciate and love the work with children a lot. Not only the practical tasks in Kindergarten but also the theoretical aspect of topics like pedagogy and childcare which I learned about in those years have aroused my interest. In my opinion kids can not only learn from you but teach you even more. That motivated me to work as an Au pair in Bardufoss, the north of Norway for 10 months. I lived there with a norwegian family and participated into the housework including cooking and cleaning, watching the 3 year old son and taking care of the dog. The experience showed me that I want to see other countries too and especially the way of living there, including working. While being in Norway the opportunity to be a german teacher in the local high school in Bardufoss was offered to me which made me teaching my mothertongue german for 6 months to the 8th, 9th and 10th grade there. Apart from that I do speak english and german fluently and norwegian on an intermediate level. I am genuinely interested in learning languages and the cultural aspect that every language carries with itself. Currently I am working as a language teacher for English at a kindergarten and german at a language institute for adults. This work once again showed me how much I enjoy being creative in my job and create new interesting thngs and lesson plans for others to enjoy. My students already know that every lesson starts with a little game and some laughter to set the right mood.
I am experienced in working with children from 2 to 16 years old in various education forms as kindergarten, school, summercamps or language courses, as well as baby sitting and volunteering work.
During my time working in a Hostel in Estonia I was able to grow my social skills and experienced what it is like to live with different people from all around the world together in one house, learning about their culture and way of living. I quickly fell in love with it and found a lot of friends that could tell amazing stories. I also got to know what it is like to be a host for others and made my first steps into the tourism scene for example while helping out guests at the reception, giving tips about the town and cleaning the rooms after they leave. I felt the same enthusiasm about my work as cleaning staff at a watersportresort in germany which meant I was daily cleaning the sanitary facilities around the place and vacation cottages for the guests that stay longer, after they left.
In the past year I found another passion in the work with animals and understanding them. Growing up in a smaller town with animals around helped me to appreciate them and their different characteristics. I would like to learn more about the work with them and how to properly take care of different kinds of animals since I'm thinking of making it my profession. I bring a various set of skills with me when it comes to farmwork from raising lambs with a bottle, over horse training up to building sheds for the winter and fixing fences. Changing weather conditions are never an issue for me and I always put the work as my first priority, especially when it comes to taking care of animals or others.
I can accomplish tasks well thought out and structured with no missed deadlines while I appreciate a good communication and feedback culture to improve my own way of working. When a problem comes up I can be initiative and try to solve it in a creative way but am at the same time not afraid to ask for help.
