Description
A couple from Reading, UK, who've just come home after exploring British Columbia for 6 months. Our dream is to one day own our own homestead where we can live more sustainably, grow food, raise animals, and be more connected to nature and our community. We want to use Workaway to gain experience and grow our skills in these areas and anything connected to this type of lifestyle (e.g. construction, energy, land management, permaculture and agroforestry).
We're both very keen to try our hands at anything, are hardworking, and able to cope with both technical and physical tasks. We're light-hearted, friendly people who are looking to learn from others and make friends along the way!Interests

More details about your skills
We have been TrustedHousesitters for a few years now, and have had the pleasure of looking after a variety of animals and homes, from dogs and cats, to sheep and poultry. We are big animal lovers, and are keen to expand our animal husbandry skills to include further care, maintenance and farm skills.
So far within our Workaway experiences we have:
- We have worked on organic farms - weeding, hoeing, thinning trees & crops, harvesting fruit & crops, harvesting, haying.
- Animal husbandry - hand milking cows, moving herds (inc. bull & calves), caring for goats & laying hens.
- Butchering & processing - cow and chickens - preservation featuring freezing, grinding, pressure canning, and stock.
- Physical Labour - Helping complete roofing projects, digging/hand excavations, managing compost & waste, removing grass, mowing & weedwacking, water pipeline installation, chainsawing & trail maintenance, fire wood stacking, loading & sorting lumber, saw mill assistance.
- Invasive species removal - holly, dock, thistles.
- Cooking - Yogurt, Bread, Baking, and farm meals using freshly harvested produce.Age

What else ...
Here's a summary of both of our interests:
- We love walking and being in the great outdoors (very original for Workaway we know!). We're always grateful when we get the chance to explore national parks, mountain ranges and any other wide open space.
- We've both gotten back into reading since Covid lockdowns and enjoy a good fantasy series, as well as non-fiction reads about animals and farming and pop science.
- We're both huge fans of live music and are regular gig-goers at home. Particular favourite genres include rock, indie, and alternative music.
- Cooking is a huge part of our relationship and how we bond, we always cook together and love experimenting with new recipes and cuisines.
- We're both very sporty and have had stints playing a number of different sports. Lucy plays netball, rugby, a bit of football, and loves horse riding; Josh plays football, cricket, and frisbee. Over the last couple of years we've also managed to get out on the water and try our hand at paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kayaking and are always looking for more opportunities to give it a go.Some more information

They tackled many diverse tasks, and were alway clean, organized, and eager to help Oh and very responsible too. They are sorely missed!
