  • Description

The beauty of nature and its preservation motivates me in my life and career. When I'm living in accordance with nature and cultivating land, I feel that I'm my truest self. I have a couple years experience in gardening and would like to continue for years to come. While spending time in the greenhouse at my university, I met so many amazing people and I was given the opportunity to work on various sustainable projects. Otherwise, photography, reading, writing, and learning new instruments, maintain my spirit and bring me joy!

    Hi!

I am in my third year of university majoring in human environment and minoring in sustainability studies. In my first semester at the university, I knew practically no one and spent much time in the greenhouse on the top floor of my building. I connected with many likeminded people, such as the greenhouse staff, who answered all of my questions about the various plants, and let me participate in whatever task they were doing (watering, planting, cleaning, etc.). Through these amazing friendships, I was able to take part in many other projects affiliated with the greenhouse, and other sustainable projects going on in and around the campus.

In 2023, I was the assistant project coordinator for Nature Positive Concordia in its first season, a program dedicated to enhancing biodiversity on the campuses. With guidance from my boss, I maintained pollinator, veg and herb gardens, researched indigenous plants of our area and helped make a garden plan, hosted volunteer sessions, designed posters and set up our social media accounts, managed emails, and many other tasks along the way.
After this, I was able to work for Hamidou Horticulture, a project dedicated to growing native African and Caribbean varieties of herbs and veggies, targeting marginalized communities who have been distanced from staple foods through migration. I worked in greenhouses planting seeds and caring for them through the winter (watering, repotting, etc.), as well as prepping the garden for planting (mulching, weeding, adding compost, etc.), and hosting volunteer sessions.
I have a lot of interest in sustainable farming practices and would love to learn/work more in this area.

Other than my gardening experience, living in Montreal, Canada, I am fluent in both English and French. English being my first and strongest language, and French which I learnt in school. I know a few words in Spanish and am eager to to improving it.
I love to knit and want to learn to sew on a machine. Generally I am open to trying anything old and new, exploring and learning as much as I can!

This might be dated, but in middle school I joined my friend's church on a mission trip to North Carolina where we helped rebuild a home after a hurricane. I learned to use power tools (mostly sawing), painted and cleared the surrounding area. I would say I have the same curiosity as I did back then :)
