  • Description

I am Sandra from Singapore :) Thank you for reading my profile. I love to be of help to you. I am hardworking and not afraid of getting my hands dirty.

Connecting with others through experiences ignites joy and fulfilment in me. I value peace, enjoy being in nature and believe in living in harmony with one another and our surroundings

I am an enthusiastic home and curbside gardener! I love to see how the flowers bring smiles to neighbours and passers-by. A defining moment for me was during Covid when I saw a nurse took a picture of the sunflower I planted while video-calling her family in the dark under a street lamp. At that moment, I realise that anyone can impact anyone positively in their own way.

More details about my language interests
I can teach the elementary/primary level of Singapore English syllabus. For my children who are now in universities (one with a government scholarship and one studying to be a doctor) and a practicing lawyer, I taught them critical thinking skills using creative activities/games, news worthy, general knowledge articles as well as everyday observations when they were young. If there is no exam to focus on, this is my preferred way of teaching English.

    Gardening experience:
I am a huge believer in permaculture.

I make compost using enzymes and the layering method at home and use them on my garden. I also do vermicomposting by creating conducive environments for earthworms to thrive in my backyard container garden.

I love growing from seeds. Sunflowers, Torenias, Balsams, Cosmos, four o'clocks and periwinkles are some of the flowers I am good at growing. I always have some "munchables" like kale, basil, mint, shiso and okra. For edibles, I also grow moringa, mugwort, pandan, garlic vine, beans and eggplants.

I believe in a good soil ecosystem and continues to explore organic ways to ensure the health of the soil. I use dried bamboo leaves from my neighbour's house as mulch and compost making.

I always take cuttings from various plants, develop a healthy root system and place them on a "giving" corner at the curbside garden. I am grateful to be blessed with new friends in my sharing experience.

I collect rainwater and carry 3-4 liter pails of water to water the curbside plants regularly. I am healthy and pretty strong :)

    Organizing skills :
I am meticulous at sorting , packing and cleaning. I pay attention to details and take pride in having a job well done to the best of my ability.

I have experience helping busy mothers with their kitchen cleanup/sorting and a mom's teenage daughter's wardrobe classification during adhoc petsitting, housesitting, babysitting and volunteering stints for the past 20 years.

    Cooking skills :
I have been cooking meals without msg for my children for more than 20 years. Meals are predominantly omnivorous(meat/fish and vegetables) Chinese style - steam, soup-based or stir fry. I pack simple lunchboxes with varied ingredients as shown in the pictures.

I love to make liquid-based types of vegetarian/vegan dessert. I can also cook a variety of simple vegetarian dishes.

    Tutoring experience :
English tutor for Singapore primary school syllabus. I curate the necessary resources for my children's education so that they can self-learn.

    Computer skills :
Excel, word and Onenote . I am willing to learn other editing skills though I am a little rusty with the latest technology. If you need my help, I am willing to put in the effort to learn.

  • What else ...

I love to play board games with my children. Since they were 6 years old until now, we have played different board games from Tiki Topple, Ticket to ride, Spy Alley, Dominion and many more. We have fun, learn from each other and understand the differences of one another.

It is my dream to learn to build a real house. If you need help to build and are willing to give me the chance to learn from you, I would try my best. I am willing to get my hands dirty and am not afraid of hard work. I paint the doors at home with water-based paint, touch up areas of the wall where paint work is needed both to save cost and also I like to do things with my hands :)

Experience interacting with the international community :
I lived in the USA for 5 years and was a babysitter. I had also have short stints of pet sitting in UK.

10 years ago, My children and I had volunteered in Cambodia and Vietnam to build(lay bricks only) and paint schools as well as prepared lesson materials to teach basic English to primary/elementary school children for 5-10 days.
