Description
We are Irina and Robert, two bicycle travellers. We were cycling from Yerevan through Georgia and Turkiye last summer, then stayed over winter in Finland to help renovate a summer house. Well, now we have bought our own house in Northern Karelia and might become hosts in the future.
Workaway gives us the opportunity to get to know the culture and people in a deeper way and we also like to do meaningful volunteering while we are travelling.
Irina had a long history of couchsurfing before, was living in Beijing for a while and backpacked and hitchhiked the northern hemisphere intensely. She studied wildlife biology and worked in nature conservation. Her interests are pottery, foraging, drawing, exploring and observing.
Robert is a craftsman (wood, leather, metal), musician and studied animation. His interests are local history, architecture, playing guitar and drawing. His travels with the scouts sparked his interest in bushcrafting and took him all over Europe.
Together we lived in the Gobi desert during winter 2016/17 for about 9 months. We volunteered for two national parks there and lived in a traditional ger (yurt).
In 2022 we cycled 8000km around the Baltic Sea and had our first great experience with workaway.

Irina loves dogs and all other animals. She has a scientific mind, but also a creative side. She can do pottery, garden work, graphic design, helping NGOs to apply for funding or writing scientific reports.
Robert is knowledgeable with different kinds of crafts and he worked as a builder. While in Mongolia he helped repairing cars and even solar-powered wells.
Of course we can also help with household chores, like cleaning, cooking, doing groceries etc.
