Hello!

My name is Esme (I go by River) and I’m a 24 year old American-New Zealander who grew up in America’s Pacific Northwest. At 18 I moved to Dunedin to study geography at Otago University and fell completely in love with New Zealand’s environment and culture. After 5 wonderful years in NZ I moved back to the US in 2022, but I've recently returned to New Zealand to study environmental management in Napier. Before my programme begins in July, I'm travelling and working across the North Island, and I would love to find a workaway stay that can help enhance my knowledge of sustainability, conservation, and self-sufficiency.

I would say that I’m a fairly introverted but friendly person. While going into new situations with new people can be daunting at times, I so often find that the people I meet have so much to teach me about humanity and the world around us. In my personal time I love to learn about subjects that interest me, such as history, philosophy, comparative religious studies, anthropology, and more. I was raised with a healthy appreciation of art, and have a passion for drawing, digital art, and collage. I'm also an avid hiker and camper with considerable outdoor experience, from building trails to walking them.

My formal work experience ranges from gardening and landscaping, administrative duties, retail, conservation, and horticulture.

As for my other skills, I am a crafty, artistic person who can help with a range of visually detail-oriented projects. I enjoy healthy plant-based cooking and am happy to cook for myself or for the group. I also have experience taking care of children and pets.
