My name is Ramona. I was born and raised in Timisoara, Romania.
I finished studying Management at West University of Timisoara and worked for 6 years in client service at an internet cafe, a place which I also managed for 2 years.
I worked during a summer at a café-bar and have experience as a waitress and as a barista and bartender.
In 2014 I left the city life and went to live in a community in the Apuseni mountains in Romania. Here I had the wonderful experience of growth with the help of the meditation we practiced here, Vipassana. We were mostly self-sustainable, growing our own food and building our own houses.
I gained confidence in myself, learned useful skills like taking care of plants and animals, child care, carpentry, building. I also developed good social skills from interacting with people from all over the world.
In August of 2022 I joined Workaway and started to travel to other countries.
- I started with Portugal where I worked in a rural eco-tourism resort. Here I was welcoming guests, serving breakfast and dinner, cleaning the rooms, and doing general chores around the property. I became part of the family and went back there in 2023 and worked there for 3 months.
- In winter of 2022 I spent 3 months in northern Norway. 1 month with a Sami family, helping around the house, with the kids and with their reindeer. After that for 2 months I stayed with a different Sami family helping with the sled dogs (24 of them), feeding them, cleaning their surroundings and taking tourists on sled rides, as a dog-musher.
After these experiences I gained enough confidence and In November 2023 I left for the trip of a lifetime.
- In New Zealand, for 3 months I have worked at a café as a barista, but also serving food to guests, greeting them and doing some other chores for the family, around the property.
- In French Polynesia, 2 months I stayed in Teahupoo with a very nice old woman. She had a big property that needed some attention and DIY and I helped with that.
For 3 weeks I stayed on a remote island, Ahe, in the Tuamotu Islands. Here I helped with some gardening in a permaculture style, learned to weave palm leaves for a roof, and went spear-fishing everyday for our lunch and dinner.
- In New Zealand again, I helped with DIY and renovation at a house.
- In Thailand, 3 weeks at a rescue shelter for dogs, feeding, cleaning, generally spending time with the dogs, feeding the street dogs and even helping to catch and save injured and scared dogs on the streets.
2 weeks in a Buddhist Meditation Centre with 4 nuns, helping early in the morning with alms and general chores around the centre.
I have a curious nature and love learning new skills. I am skilled and handy, love life, nature, people, animals. I am hardworking, organised and reliable. I am sociable and friendly, but I also value my alone time.
I am extremely grateful for everything I learned so far and I want to use these skills in my travels, giving with love and also continuing to learn new things and grow and make meaningful connections with other people.
Workaway is an amazing experience I'm having right now. I'm extremely grateful for the experiences I've had so far, the people I met and looking forward for what is coming.Interests
