Description
About Me:
Hey there! I’m Nora, 26 years old and from a small rural area in Germany.
Before I start my teacher traineeship next year, I’d love to explore a bit more of the world again and pick up some new experiences along the way!
I’ve just completed my First State Examination in History and Biology for teaching at secondary schools (basically the German version of graduating as a teacher) this october. I spent the last six years living and studying in Marburg, a beautiful little university town. I always lived in shared flats there, so sharing space, cooking together, and adapting to new people are second nature to me.
In my free time I like to read a lot or engage in any kind of DIY Project around the House.
My Workaway Journey so far:
I actually did Workaway about seven years ago — back then I travelled through Ireland, Portugal, and Sweden. I learned so much: from working on large farms and helping in hostels (cleaning rooms, welcoming guests) to renovating houses, laying carpets, painting walls, and fixing furniture. I lived with amazing people from all over the world and honestly, that’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I still have friends from that time scattered across the globe.
During those months I’ve lived in everything from –30°C snowstorms to 30°C sunshine, so I’ve learned to adapt quickly to any environment.
My Skills & Experience:
I’ve been working since I was about 16 — mostly in hospitality. I’ve spent around 10 years in gastronomy, working as a waitress, bartender, and barista, and even at cloakrooms in nightclubs. I’ve also done plenty of tutoring and babysitting, and more recently worked at a Hardware store checkout.
Last year, I worked as a teacher for English and Art at a primary school, where I taught my own lessons, helped with homework, and organised afternoon activities. I absolutely loved working with kids they’re creative, funny, and honest (sometimes too honest).
Every summer for the past 10 years, I’ve volunteered for two weeks at a huge summer camp with about 700 children. I usually run the “make up tent,” where kids can get face paintings, glitter tattoos, or colourful braids. It’s always messy, loud, and absolutely wonderful!
What I’m Like:
I’m responsible, open-minded, hard-working and I learn fast. I love being around people, helping out wherever needed, and trying new things — whether that’s teaching, doing house projects or animal or house sitting.
I’d love to join a project where I can be part of a family, help with daily life or creative activities, and share some laughter and stories along the way.
