Description

Hello! I'm Mirjam, 21, from the Netherlands. To dive straight in, my biggest passion is to one day start a permaculture community. A form of coexisting, sharing knowledge, creative expression and living life that is very close to my heart, and simply feels very logical to me.

I'm interested in creating with natural rescources, gifts from our Mother Earth. Focused on learning from nature and giving back. I have been practising a lot of skills, such as working with wool, flax and dyeing these and other fibers naturally. I have been following a basket braiding course focused on willow and now diving into all different materials. I also have a big and developing passion for nourishment through food. Fermenting, herbs and foraging.

I aim to find simplicity and interconnectedness while creating. Gift economies, living with very little, sharing and learning from Indigenous ways of being are topics floating through my brain.

Currently I am based in the Netherlands. I have recently put my study product design on a pause, doubtfull if I want to pursue it any further. I find it difficult to create in a world, where we are already drowning in "things". The study focusses on output and money a lot more than I would like, while I try my best to stay rooted in our natural world and being. Alongside I have been renovating an old campervan into a tiny house. The vision with the space is to create a habitat where the lines between inside and outside disolve as much as possible, while still having a shelter. A big and challenging project that teached me many skills and even more mentally.

I care a lot about connection and aspire to radiate warmth, hope, joy and acceptance.

My biggest passion in life is to learn, I'm always up for a challenge.

Creative solution thinking is one of the things I find a lot of joy in, even more when I can see the vision come to life through trial and error.

In the campervan I have worked with all reclaimed materials and gained a lot of skills from that. Dismanteling pallets and all the different kinds of woodwork that come with it. I have made sheepwool into insulation and battled a long time with leaks.

I've spend a lot of time braiding. Baskets are among the things, but I'm excited to use the skills and make bigger things. I would love to share all my knowledge and figure the rest out together!

Past Workaways I did included gardening, renovating and I have multiple experience of working with children and teaching English.

What else ...

I am currently signed up for a cob building course in the summer and very interested in natural building! I would like to explore spaces and different ways of living, embracing the creative freedom and joy there is in sculpting human habitats.
