  • Description

    Marilen:
I have always been curious to learn and explore. Five days after my high school graduation, I was off to explore the other side of the world. Many travels around the globe followed. I love meeting new people, get to know their countries and cultures, listen to their stories. I was raised in a city but have always been the happiest in nature: the more remote and adventurous the better!
What makes me happy are 1. "The little things" , 2. Learning new things, 3. Doing something that feels useful, 4. Getting things done, 5. Connecting with people (and animals). The little things can be sharing a moment around the fire with like minded people or playing a board game during a break. Right now, me and my partner are travelling throughout Europe in a van. Our mission: to learn about permaculture, food forests, eco-communities, connect with people. We want to become more talented in gardening, building, fixing...you name it. Be more self-sufficient and practical in all regards. I realize over and over, that working with my hands, in nature, together with other motivated people makes me a very very happy person:) (speaking from experience;-) ).

    Renske:
Since I graduated (wildlife management), I was able to fulfil my dream of buying my own little campervan. Now I’m traveling with my partner throughout Europe with the goal of gaining more knowledge and work experience. I’m motivated to learn more about gardening since i’m interested in maybe having my own food forest one day, but also about building/fixing things in a house since being handy will help me in the future!

But who am I and what makes me happy:
I’m Renske from the Netherlands and a real cheese head (I loveeeee Dutch cheese).
I’m someone who loves a lot I figured out during the writing of this text!

The following things that make me really happy: traveling, being in nature, hiking, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, having quality time with my family and friends, playing endlessly board games/cardgames, eating some good food, photographing, surfing and enjoying the little things in life.

I’m excited to see what workaway has to offer me and can’t wait to gain new experiences and meet like minded people who love adventures and being in the outdoor!

  • More details about your skills

    Marilen:
I am a very open minded and motivated young woman. My Bsc. studies have taught me a great deal about conservation and environmental education. Thanks to many long term stays in Africa, Australia and Europe I have learnt to adjust myself to different circumstances. I am easy going, independent and a dedicated worker. I learn quickly, complete my tasks with care and dedication and take instructions seriously. However, if wanted I can be a real creative and innovative team player. I love working in a team! I have worked and volunteered in several projects, ranging from au pair to field research on chimpanzees and whales, from delivering parcels to being a waiter, from building a camp for homeless children to rehabilitating seals and kangaroos. From teaching students in Botswana to restoring corals in the Philippines. Every work experience has taught me something and made me the person I am today: efficient, creative, motivated, keen to learn, open, optimistic and (almost) always found with a smile on my face.

    Renske:
I'm a motivated, open-minded, solution driven, creative woman, who is keen to learn new things.
Throughout my life I have worked at different places and gained different skills. During my study wildlife/conservation management I have completed several internships all over the world. There I learnt how to adapt to different cultures and circumstances, as doing research in the jungle of Costa Rica, working on a whale watching boat, living in the bush of South Africa, or working in a wildlife rescue center in Indonesia are completely different worlds and experiences. Here I also learnt how to work in a team, but also be a leader of a project.
During my study I also gained knowledge about environmental education (minor), conservation, animal welfare and marketing.
Besides my study I have experience in hospitality, since I worked as a waitress in two restaurants. Furthermore I worked as a sales woman in a cookie store for 5 years. Here I discovered that my enthusiasm is contagious to others.
My passion is photographing and I love to help a company with telling there story through a picture.
