Description
We are Marie (25 years) and Robert (28 years) from Germany. We love to explore the world together, get to know new countries, places and cultures, meet new people, make nice experiences and go beyond our limits. That’s why we decided in 2023 to quit our jobs for traveling for one year to New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Southeast Asia. Since the world has so much more to offer we decided after working back in Germany for 1,5 years to go explore the world again. So we started our journey through South America in August 2025. So far we’ve been in Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and now back in Columbia before we’re heading to Middle America, first to Costa Rica. This trip is already exceeding all our expectations. We’re so in love with the landscape, the culture and the people. We’re really looking forward for the further trips.

We just started back in Germany to learn spanish with a learning app and we’re improving our skills by traveling through South America, but our skills are still really basic. We would love to improve them. And we’re also open to every new language. We’re not the best in learning new languages, but we would love to learn new words and phrases of other languages. We would be happy to show others a few German words.

More details about your skills
Marie loves being surrounded by people and dealing with them from a very young age, so she studied "Social Work". Through her studies she has learned many skills for dealing with people, whether old or young, with or without disabilities. So far she has gained experience in day care centers, in a special school and in the work with people with disabilities.
During her school years and her studies she had some side jobs for example she delivered newspapers, worked in a bakery, a hotel, a Corona test center, in some restaurants and on the Christmas market.
Robert has always been very fond of technology, so he did an education to become a "computer scientist". He loves to set up and program things (cell phones, phone systems, computers and so on), take care of and maintain systems and networks and design websites. Robert is also a car enthusiast so he knows cars very well and has done a lot of work on them.
Marie grew up on a big farm with a lot of meadow, forest and animals. Robert moved to the farm about 5 years ago. Since there is always something to do on such a farm, our manual skills are always being tested. For example we have paved our yard, extended a barn, renewed fences, cut down trees and chopped wood and the animals (dog, cat, chickens, nandus, alpacas, fish) of course also want to be taken care of. In another aspect we have expanded and rebuilt our apartment in a beautiful half-timbered house almost 5 years ago. In 2024, we revived our long-neglected family garden and spent the last two years learning some gardening basics. We also planted several fruit trees. We're no gardening experts, but we really enjoy working in the garden.
During our year-long trip in 2023, we had four Workaway experiences.
In our first workaway experience we did a wide variety of work around the house and garden. From mowing the lawn, planting seeds, and gardening to picking oranges, sanding furniture and doing computer work.
Since our second host was suddenly unable to accommodate us due to a family emergency, we stayed with her wonderful friends on their chicken farm. Here, Marie mainly helped with house cleaning, cooking, and baking, while Robert assisted them with technology and all kinds of computer issues.
We spent our third Workaway on a sheep farm. We helped with sheep herding, chopped wood, painted fences, cooked and cleaned.
Our fourth and last Workaway lasted just under a month. We did a lot of gardening and helped with all kinds of house renovation work.
We are grateful for all the experiences we were able to gain and for being part of these wonderful households. We are still in contact with two of the hosts to this day.
We are both active people who love being outdoors. We love hiking and exploring new places, preferably on foot. But we also enjoy being at the beach, swimming, snorkeling and working on our surfing skills. We prefer relaxing evenings, playing games and reading books. We love to relax in a hammock and enjoy doing yoga together, even if we don't do it often enough.
Since our mother tongue is German we speak this language fluently. Our English skills have improved enormously through our travels and we feel very confident with it. We started learning Spanish for this trip and although our knowledge is very basic, we are looking forward to continuing to improve. We would also be happy to get to know other languages.

They're both well versed at DIY having completed their own renovation at home, came and did well at jiujitsu, fit in well with the other workawayers that were here (when it was especially busy!),

Unfortunately they came to us at a transition time between 2 properties which indeed was limiting to the amount of down time Joe & I had to socialise which we would have been only too keen to do normally.
They are great workers and easy going.
WOULD RECCOMMEND HIGHLY to any prospective hosts
