Description

Hi! I am Marianne, a 19 year old girl from a lake town in Québec.
After finishing cégep (Québec's college) , I chose to take a gap year in order to gain life experiences and step out of my comfort zone before heading to university. This journey has brought me from South America to Oceania.
I give a lot of importance to low-impact ecotourism, and thus it is important for me to give back to the communities I visit. It's the main reason why I chose to volunteer during my travels. I am also looking forward to learning new skills and have a glimpse of what the local life looks like.

In college, I studied natural sciences with an environmental and social profile.
During my studies, I worked in hospitality (at a spa) which helped me develop attention to detail, efficiency and professionalism. I then worked in customer service in a café.
I am currently working in a water sport rental shop where I can share my love for outdoor activities and use my knowledge about canoeing. I am also an adventure guide for high school students. My work mainly consists of preparing expeditions and teaching wilderness skills as well as useful tricks for camping and other activities.
In my free time, I love learning new skills and building different things by myself. For example, I had so much fun while building my own raised garden bed to plant vegetables or while knitting my own winter hats. I am also musically inclined. I indeed played the clarinet in my high school and college bands.
