Hi I'm Maria, I'm an Australian national of English & Filipino descent but born and raised in Hong Kong! 😄 I've lived in England and Hong Kong and am looking to move to Australia later this year. I want to travel for a bit before then.

I'm interested in Workaway as it brings together people from different countries together in a cultural exchange. I'm excited to get to know and experience a different side of a country that the usual tourist wouldn't normally get to see.

I work in arts & cultural management in Hong Kong (namely with Asian art & antiques) and used to work in a variety of places from a range of cultural festivals in the UK, a historical Grade I listed heritage hall in a zoo, a theatre, a lifestyle magazine, etc. I nearly went into marine biology back in the day and have rediscovered my interest in wildlife and nature when I got into scuba diving and outdoor activities a while ago. Since then, I've been looking for more opportunities to tap into this and travel at the same time.

More details about my language interests
I learnt a bit of Mandarin in high school but am very rusty, I would love the chance to practice speaking it again. I took some Spanish lessons during the pandemic and would like to practice that too if I can.

Hobbies include scuba diving, paddle-boarding, snorkelling, kayaking, cycling, hiking, yoga, meditation, learning Mandarin, investing, board games.

I love the underwater world and am a PADI Advanced Open Water diver. I've dived in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Bali, Taiwan, Egypt, Oman, Mexico and the Maldives and hope to add more places to that list!
With diving, I have also volunteered as a Dive Against Debris, Ghostnet recovery and Reef Check diver.
I'm interested in marine archaeology and love a good shipwreck dive as well.

I also enjoy visiting places of history and am keen to check out any museum or places of culture wherever I am.
