  • Description

    Hello hosts and fellow Workawayers!

I'm Maelis, a young 18-year-old student at Leiden University College, studying Liberal Arts and Sciences. I find a real joy in getting hands-on and I am truly motivated to help people whilst learning new skills. I am always up for a new adventure, and discovering new landscapes and cultures. Beyond being interested in travelling, I enjoy the arts, whether it be painting, ceramics, drawing or theatre. I have acted in theatre festivals and I have taken part in several football competitions.

I have a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. I can't wait to travel, and can't wait to meet loads of new people along the way! I am looking forward to connecting with you all, and the projects you offer, to create meaningful experiences.

I have lived in many countries (Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Spain and now the Netherlands) because my parents are international school teachers. I consider myself flexible and I find adapting to new environments easy and enriching.

I speak three languages, English, French and Spanish fluently but would love to learn any language. I enjoy the company of children, and have lots of experience with dogs ( I have one at home haha). I hope to hear back from you.
Here's to an exciting journey ahead!

More details about my language interests
I'm genuinely excited about both sharing my language knowledge and soaking up new linguistic experiences. Teaching languages is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about opening up possibilities for others, and that's something I'm passionate about. Equally, I'm eager to immerse myself in new cultures and languages. There's a unique joy in learning from others and embracing the richness of different linguistic expressions. So, it's a two-way street for me – sharing what I know and diving into the wealth of languages that the world has to offer.

  • More details about your skills

So, in terms of skills and experience, I've got a bit of a varied palette. First off, I'm a total animal lover – volunteered at a shelter, so I've got a good handle on taking care of pets. Kids are another story; I babysit regularly and have a blast doing it.

Language-wise, I'm Fluent in Spanish, English, and French, and I've got a TEFL certification to back it up. So, if anyone needs tutoring, I'm on it.

On the academic side, I'm navigating between Public Health and Environmental Sciences. The environment is a big deal for me, so I'm all about sustainable practices.
