    Workaway

    Hi there :-)

I am Lea from Germany (Aachen), a psychologist and researcher by profession, very curious, open-minded and a nature lover (protecting it, being there, valuing, admiring and discovering it).
Various things are interesting to me, but what always catches me are sensitive souls, hands-on energetic people, music, animals and sports.

Currently I’m on a trip for four months. First, I worked remotely for two months in Italy, because I wanted to learn the language, dive into the culture, explore its nature, food and history.
At the beginning of July I’ll arrive in East Canada and will be staying for six weeks. In September I’ll go back to Germany and will try to resettle there (which is always hard for me after travelling).

    Why Canada?
I want to visit Canada because it was stuck in my mind for several years and finally I was offered the opportunity to actually do it. Mostly it’s a gut feeling and I’ll probably really know why I was drawn to Canada when I leave. For now it’s (unfortunately) rather superficial reasons: Canadas stunning nature, friendly people, its history and the two languages.

    Why Workaway?
For some weeks I was trying to find a good way to travel Canada and felt a bit lost. When I found Workaway I finally felt: Yes! This is what I want to do! I love to experience other cultures not only from outside but meet local people, travel slowly (compared to just rushing from one stunning national park to another), be in close contact with nature.
I’m new to Workaway and also to volunteering, and am very curious and motivated to engage in some workaway experience! I quickly understand and pick up how things are to be done and am keen to help people with whatever I can. Supporting others is a great joy for me. :-)

I’m looking very much forward to all the opportunities that evolve and will be happy to read your message :-)

    Waving from Florence!

More details about my language interests
Currently, I would like to learn more Italian. I just started and had a stay of two months in Italy in order to really learn how to speak it in everyday life and not just in theory. I can teach English and German :-)

  • More details about your skills

    Manual skills
    - Plants: Grew up with a garden and sometimes helped my parents with caring about it (lawn mowing, weeding, planting, watering, composting, cutting hedges,…) and my apartment is packed with thriving plants
    - Animals: Grew up with a dog at my grandparents’ house, I have a cat (7 years old), I love animals - they fascinate me and I value them a lot, have had some riding lessons (but only very basic)
    - Children: I have two younger brothers and did several babysitting jobs; children like me very much, because I’m a playful and respectful person (It’s important for me to treat them as an individual, instead of from above)

    - I can cook (mostly vegetarian, but also some meat/fish dishes)
    - Play piano (5 years), singing (2 years)
    - Basic sewing skills and advanced crocheting skills
    - Repair bikes (basic to advanced skills)
    - Basic manual skills (nailing, using a drilling machine or a saw, built a 7m spiral stair for my cat so she could go outside, painting walls, build furniture)

    - Scientific work, abstract thinking, statistics, workshops, …
    - A bit about artificial intelligence (I’m working for a start-up on that)
    - Some knowledge about emergency medical services and fire brigade because my research institute is doing research on technical innovations in that field
    - Psychology (I’m not a therapist though, only have a Master degree), currently doing my PhD
    - Computers (I cannot program, but can deal with PCs and Macs)
