Our next destination:
Australia - from Feb 2025 until May 2025 View allDescription
Hello, Maya and Lara here! Friends since childhood, and roommates for several years in college, we know we live and travel well together. We are both spending some time post-grad to decide on/procrastinate our career paths by traveling. We hope that workaway will give us an opportunity to connect with people around the world and get a more immersive and authentic experience. Being from Washington state in the US, we love to hike and swim, and often spend time playing card games. Maya is vegetarian and Lara is more of an omnivore but we both love trying new foods and learning to cook. Lara is always down for a sweet treat and Maya can never pass up cheese or chips. Although not twins, we do share a birthday (on earth day!), and celebrate together every year.
Lara:
I recently graduated from the University of Washington with a undergrad degree in Environmental Science. I love all things outdoors such as kayaking, hiking, skiing, and biking. I spent most of my childhood exploring all the nature Washington has to offer! I’m an easy going person and get along with most everyone. I have experience working with different age groups, including at an elementary school and volunteering at a beach visitor center. I've also worked at a plant nursery and had an environmental restoration job this past summer - I like getting my hands dirty!
My parents are avid travelers and have always encouraged me to take time to travel and work abroad after I graduate. My last quarter of undergrad I studied in Nepal and then traveled in South and South East Asia afterwards. It’s been the most wonderful and eye-opening opportunity and I can’t wait to see what Australia has to offer!
Maya:
Hello! My name is Maya, I am from Seattle, Washington, US. I just graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Political Science and International Studies. I spent the last few months of my undergrad studying in Prague, and am now traveling around Indochina. Next up Australia! I love learning about history and culture and I’m excited to connect with some wise and knowledgeable work away hosts!Interests

Lara:
I love spending time with kids! I worked at a German cultural immersion preschool/elementary school for a year and have babysat for many families. I have a bit of experience working with plants such potting, planting, and maintenance from past jobs and volunteer opportunities. I would love to improve my gardening skills! I’m not the best cook but would love to help out with cleaning or any other household chore.
Maya:
I have worked in childcare and love helping out with children and animals. I have also worked in a few restaurants and bars and have a strong sense of hospitality and enjoy talking to people. I am always happy to help around the house and especially love cooking and exchanging recipes. I would say I’m pretty neat and organized and I definitely enjoy organization projects. Although I’m not particularly talented at it, I would love to help with any artistic or creative projects!Age
