  • Description

Hi! My name is Lakuna and my pronouns are they/them.
I’m an unconventional soul, currently on a healing journey to build trust and safety within myself.
I just finished my first yoga teacher training, in the Kaula Tantra Tradition, and am excited at the prospect of sharing this beautiful practice.
I want to deepen my relationship and understanding of animals, especially dogs and horses. They are such beautiful emotional creatures, and yet are so mistreated and misunderstood in our world. They have given me so much, I’d like to give something in return.
I have a deep respect for the light within each person, especially the little ones who have just arrived on this planet and shine the brightest of all. I value authenticity, empathy and harmony above all else.
It’s my first time backpacking, and I’m looking forward to meeting new people and finding my travel family.

  • More details about your skills

My main skill is my artistic eye. It's a much more powerful skill than you might think. It helps me see the beauty and potential for transformation in all things. I work until the image I have created in my mind is reflected in the material world.

I use this skill every summer in my garden to slowly transform it, season by season, from a plain square of weedy lawn, to a thriving mess of coexisting beings. I will be working on my online Permaculture Certification course, and I would love to learn the theory while practicing on your beautiful property.

This eye also helps me cook, believe it or not! When I was first learning, my mama said to me "to know if you're cooking a healthy meal, just make sure it is full of color". The healthiest meals I make are my vegan or vegetarian ones which I pack with many colored vegetables. I bake too, not so much for the visual beauty, but the sensory rainbow: the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg, the feel of the bread dough as I kneed, and best of all, the wafting smells through the house as the sweetness rises.

I love to make art, be it drawing, painting, carving, sculpting or photography. Although I'm only a beginner in the latter two, I'd love the opportunity to explore them further. I love to alter and customize my clothes as well, recycling fabrics to extend the life of my garments through repair and resizing.

This visual propensity of mine is also accompanied by a well honed spatial awareness that makes me delight in the planning of spaces. I love to organize and categorize, to find the best flow for furniture in a room, how to create the perfect lighting and pick the right color scheme. I'm currently designing my own Tiny House on Wheels, and am therefore looking to expand my building skills. I've been using construction tools such as hammers and hand saws since I was a child, and since then I've made many things so I'm competent with most basic power tools (saws, drills, etc)

My parents moved to Ecuador so that my siblings and I could go to an alternative school, a grassroots educational movement to raise kids who are happier, more creative, curious and confident. This was accomplished by self directed learning, so if I expressed curiosity about something, I had access to the materials and a supervisor (not a teacher!) so that I could experiment on my own, without judgement or fear of failure. I love interacting with children and engaging in their play. Growing up in a Montessori environment has greatly shaped who I am, and instilled in me the importance of play and imagination. I have much to learn from children and would love to be a support in their growth, not guiding or directing, but seeing where their light guides them, removing obstacles in their way and adding little paving stones to make the path a little easier.

    TLDR
Gardening experience (vegetables and some herbs/medicinal flowers, companion planting, mulching, soil building and composting)
Cooking (mostly vegan) and baking (bread, muffins, granola bars, cakes, etc)
Art (drawing, painting, murals, sculpting, carving) and design (interior design and making things) as well as sewing (repair, resize, recycle)
Basic building skills and tool use including power tools.
    Conscious and respectful child minding.

  • What else ...

I am open, eager to learn and excited at the prospect of meeting new people, especially since being so isolated due to current events.

I love to move: to run, to dance, to flow in yoga, climbing, martial arts, anything. I'm especially into dancing since learning about its role in helping to let go of trauma stored somatically in the body. It is such a beautiful way of connecting with the self and processing deep emotions. I have only just begun to solidify my own yoga practice, having done it with online vidoes on and off since I was 16, and would love the opportunity to practice regularly with others.

I'm interested in learning many things which include medicinal herbs, canning and pickling, foraging and mushroom ID, how to play the ukulele, feng shue and eco-architecture, communication and mediation, emotional intelligence, conscious parenting, and on and on and on. I love to learn!

I'd love to have the opportunity to converse about any of the topics I've mentioned in my profile, as well as anything you might be interested in.

    Hopefully, I'll meet you soon!
