  • Description

Scarlet and I are 22 years old and currently live in the United Kingdom. We are currently prioritising experiencing new cultures, travelling and pursuing meaningful connections. We both agree the times we have spent travelling brought about some of the most enjoyable experiences of our lives.

I (Katie) previously spent six months in Canada working a ski season and it was the best six months of my life. This was because I skied every day, made friends from lots of different countries and worked outside in nature.

Another passion of ours is animals, this is why Scarlet has been a vegetarian since the age of 10 and I volunteered at Cat Rescue Centre for years.

We chose to travel to New Zealand because of how much it has to offer. We are hoping to experience the Māori culture, amazing adventure activities and unique nature such as the geothermal springs. Additionally, New Zealand has lots of wildlife wonders like the Maui dolphins, Kiwis and Northland Green Geckos.

    Katie:

I am a hard worker looking for a Workaway host in New Zealand. I am currently working as a Waitress at a luxury hotel called the Woolacombe Bay Hotel in the UK. I am friendly, dedicated to giving great customer service, and good under pressure.

During my time as a Waitress I have further improved upon my verbal communications skills, through guest interactions. I regularly use these skills to interact with my colleagues in important situations such as preparing the food and drinks for our breakfast service; I have become a very good team player. I also appreciate the importance of going the extra mile when team members are struggling with their tasks.

During my time in Canada I worked as a Lift Operator, where I had to do lots of manual work such as shovelling snow, digging in gates and bumping chairs. Due to this I am suited to working outside in all weather conditions. Some days it reached -30C!

I have a lot of computer experience, as I used to work as an Insolvency Administrator. During this time I had to learn how to use multiple types of software. Insolvency was statutory based and there were a lot of deadlines. I had my own portfolio of cases and I had to make sure we never missed any of these deadlines, so I am used to a lot of responsibility.

Overall, I believe I would be suited well to do unskilled manual work, any role working with guests / customers, or an administrative role.

    Scarlet:

As an individual, working hard and seeing a task through to completion have always been staples of my personality; it is not in my nature to give less than my best. I enjoy having a working life due to its dynamic and challenging character, keeping my career and life engaging and motivating. Resilience, initiative and collaboration are my biggest assets, developed during my time as an apprentice. Whilst I currently have the skillset to perform within the workplace, I am always looking for learning opportunities that will enable me to reach the upper echelons of my future chosen profession.

I currently work as an Insolvency Administrator where I handle a large case portfolio consisting of a variety of insolvency types. My time working in the insolvency sector in the past four years has lead me to have a significant amount of experience with responsibilities, deadlines and dealing with customers under precarious circumstances. I have also vastly improved my computer literacy skills and ability to work in a team environment, I now strive to create a working atmosphere filled with positivity and compassion. Whilst working and studying, I have gained some accountancy qualifications (UK AAT Level 3) so I am suited to problem solving with numbers.

Prior to my career in insolvency, I worked as a Shop Assistant in a local florist. My first job was something that I was very passionate about as it allowed me to partake in two of my favourite things; cleaning and creativity. Since the global pandemic, I became more conscious of cleanliness and have come to really enjoy cleaning and find it therapeutic.

In terms of the skills I have developed and honed outside of my working life, I have an affinity for painting and decorating and can be very hands on if required. I really enjoy working outdoors and would love to learn and improve on any skills necessary to complete any task I am given to a high quality standard.

In conclusion, whilst I am enthusiastically up to trying anything, my experience would make me suitable and qualified for a role that is administration based and/or involving providing a great customer experience.

  • What else ...

    Katie:

I have an interest in conserving wildlife and have been considering pursuing a career in
Ecology once I finish travelling. I am passionate about helping animals, which is why I used to volunteer at a cat rescue centre (I'm a little bit of a crazy cat lady).

My hobbies are painting, socialising with friends, going to concerts and going on walks around different nature spots.

    Scarlet:

I recently travelled to Alaska and rekindled my passion for aquatic wildlife. Whilst I do not currently foresee the end of my time travelling, I am presently considering going to university to study Marine Biology and Environmental Sciences so that I am able to be more conscious of the planet and anything I can do to conserve as much of it as possible.

My life outside of work involves a lot of time with my family and our beloved dogs (I became responsible for teaching our puppy a lot of his tricks), reading, football spectating, film/tv and swimming. I hope to one day gain my qualifications in lifeguarding and scuba diving.
