Description
Hi, I’m Katie aged 25 from the UK. I have spent the last few years floating between travelling, volunteering, working and long distance walking.
I have been privileged to spend time in New Zealand driving, walking and exploring my way across both islands as well as volunteering with monks in Thailand and walking from Mexico to Canada across North America. I have worked at nurseries, childrens holiday clubs, festivals and as both an outdoor guide for the Duke of Edinburgh award and a student ambassador.
I have a degree in Textiles but really my interests lie outside of that. I prefer being outside than anywhere else. I love running, walking, wild swimming, gravel biking. Anything with trails and views and hopefully sunshine. Generally I am a calm but hardworking person and I enjoy being busy and getting involved in projects/ getting jobs done. If I have committed to something I will follow through. I am quite self lead and getting on with things and being proactive.
I thrive in a community environment and much prefer this to solo volunteering. I love shared meals and activities like card games, walks, swims.
I have spent over 12 months volunteering in 5 different countries including a community farm, hostels, off grid properties, family homes and Buddhist monastery.
Some tasks I have been involved with or lead are:
- looking after chickens and bees
-changeovers for holidays cottages/cabins/hostels including changing beds, cleaning rooms and kitchen
-basic woodwork: extending a shed with a stud frame and scrap tin, mending benches, making bird boxes
-built a dry stone wall
-general diy e.g. painting, mending broken benches, gutter clearing, honey frame making
- lots of cooking and baking for groups of 6-14 people
-fence building
-hugerculture/permaculture gardening methods
-pruning, clearing areas of weeds and brambles, planting veggie seeds
-pickling veggies, general preserving and jam making
-concrete making and pouring, barn foundation laying
-loads of digging, levelling ground and putting gravel down, wheelbarrowing things
-earth plastering
-staying with female monks (bikkhunis). Chanting, meditation, looking after the gardenInterests

What else ...
Love exploring new places/ meeting new people especially for walks, card games, swims, camping and general conversations. Love swimming in lakes/ any form of water, listening to music, reading and journaling. The best thing is packing a bag and cramming 5 people into a 4 man tent then going wild camping and walking for a few days or just any opportunity I get to be out in the sunshine :)
