Description
I am one of the lucky folks who sought and achieved a career as a union organizer, labor lawyer, and union administrator and then found a new career late in life as a Seattle Parks maintenance worker. When I asked the superintendent of the golf course where I played weekly if he had a job and he said yes, it was to be temporary. But I found I loved the work and stayed. Having no desire to advance, I get to simply make parks lovely for people to enjoy. I worked in golf, in various Seattle districts, at the Washington Park Arboretum and am now a part of the Landscape Crew which does major renovation projects throughout the City. Physical, outdoor work makes me happy, I have learned, so I'll keep doing it until I can't.

I would love to use the very rough Spanish or French stowed somewhere deep in my brain. Or to learn a little of any other language. I did teach English As A Second Language at a community center here in Seattle about ten years ago.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

Pretty much all aspects of gardening. Cooking. Small construction. Project planning. I have owned four houses, so I can do minor repairs, such as changing washers, replacing window panes, painting, step replacement.

What else ...
I am really interested in learning more about animal husbandry, particularly taking care of sheep, pigs and cattle. It's something I might want to pursue a little more here in the US. I have travelled a lot both alone, with my young family, and with my adult daughter. Mostly, I prefer hosteling and bus or train rides which is not typically American. I took my daughter to Namibia on a camping trip upon her graduation from nursing school which was pretty terrific. If there are card players of any ilk in the homestay, watch out!!
