Hi,
We are Jan and Madeleine and we met three and a half years ago when we were volunteering in the same project in Portugal.
We both quickly realised that working outdoors, far from cities, in nature and surrounded by a community was the way to go for us. After a few months Jan was hired by the project to manage the garden and the orchard. Madeleine decided to volunteer in different projects in South and North Portugal to broaden her skill set.

In spring, after the toughest part of the winter, we will continue biking towards South Italy together for the first time.

Both Jan and Madeleine would love to improve their Italian. Jan has beginner level and Madeleine intermediate. We are both happy to teach one of our own mother languages if there would be an interest !

More details about your skills

Jan is a skilled and experience gardener. He can also process foodstuff in different ways to preserve and ferment them (kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, bread with sourdough, vinegar, … ). He has knowledge about medicinal plants, picks wild herbs for infusions and worked eight years in a tea house in Czechia. He took part in a council training and has facilitated sharing circles and men's circles.

Madeleine can turn your sheep into rugs. Apart from tanning leather, she loves to process food and bake bread or make pastries. She took part in a natural building course and permaculture design course and volunteered in projects to build experience in both fields.
In Belgium she worked as a pediatric audiologist for 5 years in a children hospital and a rehabilitation center.

Both Jan and Madeleine are enthusiastic persons with a creative mind and the will for learning. Thanks to our previous volunteering and work experience, both of us are able to work autonomously and develop a project from the beginning.

We love to play boardgames, Jan plays flute and Madeleine travels with a little guitar.
We know different dice games and card games which work in any language.
Jan practices yoga and Qi Gong, Madeleine is learning to carve wooden spoons.
