Gardening! Making yummy food and meeting new friends :)
Description
Hello! We are Dallas and Jamie :)
We are from Perth, Australia, and love the remoteness of our 'island' home. We also love exploring and meeting new friends, which is why we are looking for a family/community to stay with through WorkAway. Our main goals on our year of traveling in Europe are to spend time in nature, experience new cultures, learn from friends and share our talents with others.
About Us:
Dallas:
I am a very open person with a love of all living things, that makes me want to get up close and personal with everything from teeny bugs and fungi, to animal and human friends. I enjoy all things outdoor and adventurous (including camping, hiking, cycling and rock climbing) and just getting curious about the world around me.
I'm a hard worker, who feels happiest with busy hands and a team around me. I value having a community to grow with, which comes from being raised with Baha'i values most of my life- a very loving and unifying world religion. I'm a very social introvert, so enjoy making new friends but also know how to be on my own for long periods of time. I mainly eat plant-based foods, but appreciate any food made fresh and with love.
I really value moving slowly and taking time to soak up a place when I'm travelling, so Jamie and I have taken 12 months off our day-jobs to travel Europe and the UK. My goals for this trip are to create art with nature, challenge myself, meet new friends and live a simple life.
Jamie:
I really enjoy spending time by ocean and in the bush (Australian forest), and I think this is where my love and appreciation for nature comes from. I would describe myself as an adventurous, "go with the flow" kind of person. I am someone who is introverted, and I enjoy my own space & peace from time to time, but meeting new people and fostering positive community spaces is one of my favourite things to do. The values of empathy, conscientiousness and trust are very important to me.
My main passions include rock climbing, the environment, animals, and community. Travelling in Europe has always been a dream of mine, and so I have taken some long term leave from work to do just that. For this trip, my goal is to experience new cultures, meet lots of people, spend time near nature, and hopefully do a lot of climbing along the way!Interests

Dallas
I'm an ecologist by trade, with a background in aquatic fauna management (5 years, Environmental Science degree). This has given me a lot of field trip skills (planning logistics, working outdoors in extreme temperatures [40+ degrees celcius], working with a team/the public, using initiative, fixing nets and equipment etc.) as well as technological skills working with Microsoft word, excel and powerpoint. I am very scientifically minded and love a good puzzle.
Previous work experience was in gardening and maintenance- 1 year gardening at Bahai World Heritage Gardens in Haifa, Israel and 3 years in gardening/maintenance at a Waldorf School in Perth, Western Australia.
Community education is important to me and I have almost 10 years of teaching experience working with children (ages 6-15) incorporating art, song and story-telling into weekend classes for spiritual education (focusing on spiritual virtues, such as courage, generosity and patience).
I mainly eat plant-based foods, and can cook for large groups of people.
Jamie:
I have a degree in Psychology (Hons) and I have been working as a social worker for the past year and a half. From pursuing this, I have great written and verbal communication skills, and I am very good at listening, empathising and relating with people from many different walks of life. I have always worked as a part of a team but I also feel confident in working independently.
I grew up with technology, and I am extremely confident in doing any computer related tasks. I also previously worked as a draftsman for several years, so I have a lot of experience in using Autocad. Growing up I also volunteered for a few different organisations, mainly doing tree planting/ environmental conservation work, as well as working to help rehabilitate injured/sick animals.
Finally I have been rock climbing & training regularly (mainly bouldering) for roughly 4 and a half years, so I am physically fit & happy to do any tasks involving manual labour.Age
