Description
Hi! I’m Jakob, 20 years old and from Germany. I just finished high school and decided to take some time before university to travel, learn, and experience life a bit differently.
I’m currently traveling through South America with my backpack and an open mind. I love discovering new places, but what really matters to me are the people I meet, shared moments, and learning about different cultures along the way.
I’m a curious, easygoing, and spontaneous person who enjoys being active and outdoors — hiking, running, swimming, climbing, yoga, or just watching a sunrise in nature. Sports play a big role in my life: I compete in track and field as a hurdler and have been coaching a youth athletics group for the past two years, which I really enjoy.
Music is also important to me. I’ve been playing the saxophone for over ten years, love being around music, and would be excited to finally learn some guitar.
I speak German and English fluently and am learning Spanish. One of my goals during this trip is to really improve my Spanish (I promised my dad I wouldn’t come home before I can have a proper conversation 😄).
I care about sustainability, enjoy working with people, and have experience working in a café/bar. I may not know everything yet — especially when it comes to building or construction — but I’m motivated, quick to learn, and happy to help wherever I can.
For me, it’s all about good energy, shared experiences, and meaningful connections. -

More details about your skills
I’m pretty open when it comes to different kinds of work and always bring motivation and a good attitude. I especially enjoy working with children — playing with them, exploring things together, or helping them learn something new. For the past two years, I coached a kids’ athletics group, which was a really fun and rewarding experience for me.
Sports are a big part of my life. Before traveling, I competed professionally in hurdles, and I’ve always loved trying and doing all kinds of sports just for fun. So anything active or sports-related is something I genuinely enjoy.
I also worked in a café/bar, where I liked being around people, talking to guests, and getting a feel for hospitality. Being outdoors is another thing I really enjoy. During a three-week Workaway stay at a lodge, I helped with gardening tasks like planting, trimming, and general upkeep.
In another Workaway I volunteered in a Hostel, mainly doing Reception Work.
Most of all, I love learning new things. I’m curious, flexible, and happy to take on new challenges — even (or especially) when I’ve never done them before. -
