Hi there! I’m Jakob, a 19-year-old from Germany, fresh out of high school and full of curiosity for the world.
With my backpack on and an open mind, I’ve set off on an open-ended journey through South America before heading to university — looking not only to explore new places but to truly connect with people, cultures, and nature along the way.
Growing up, I was lucky to travel to many different countries with my family, which sparked a deep love for exploring new cultures and languages. That passion only grew stronger, and I’ve since done some solo trips, including recently hitchhiking through Italy — sleeping in a hammock or staying with incredible people I met on the road, some of whom have become close friends.
I’m an adventurous and spontaneous person who loves trying new things and saying “yes” to the unexpected. Whether it’s hiking up a mountain, watching the sunrise, going for a run, climbing, yoga or swimming in a wild lake — nature is where I feel most alive. I'm also a dedicated athlete: I train and compete in track and field as a hurdler and have been coaching a youth athletics group for the past two years. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge, especially with kids and teens, and learning from others in return.
Another big part of who I am is music. I’ve been playing the saxophone for over ten years and studied at a music-focused school. Wherever there's music, you’ll probably find me too — listening, playing, or dancing. I’m also super excited to finally learn how to play the guitar.
I speak both German and English fluently and have started learning Spanish on my own. One of my personal goals during this trip is to truly immerse myself and become fluent in Spanish — I even promised my dad I wouldn’t come home until I can hold a conversation in Spanish!
On top of all that, I care deeply about the environment. Back in school, I was part of a UNESCO project aimed at making our school more sustainable and climate-neutral. That experience taught me how important it is to take action for the planet.
While I may not be an expert in everything yet — like building or fixing things — I’m always eager to learn and happy to help in any way I can. I am very good in communication with other people and worked in a cafe/bar last year. For me, it’s all about the experience, the people, and the stories we create along the way.Languages

More details about your skills
I’m open to a wide range of different jobs and always bring a lot of motivation and a positive attitude. I work especially well with children and truly enjoy spending time with them—whether it's playing, exploring, or teaching them something new. That’s also why I led a children's athletics group as a coach for the past two years, which was an incredibly rewarding experience for me.
I also have a big passion for sports. Before I started traveling, I was a professional athlete specializing in hurdles, and I’ve always been involved in many different sports just for fun. So, any kind of work related to sports makes me genuinely happy!
In addition to that, I have experience working in a café bar, where I enjoyed interacting with guests and gained some insight into hospitality. I also love spending time outdoors and in the garden. During a three-week Workaway stay at a lodge, I helped with gardening tasks such as planting, trimming, and general maintenance.
Most of all, I'm always excited to learn something completely new—I'm curious, adaptable, and love taking on new challenges!Age
